  • Top tips for a bikini body

We all look forward to our summer holiday, but let’s face it, baring all on the beach for the first time can send a cold chill down the spine! If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone – every year thousands of women across Ireland strive to get that “bikini body”.

But forget the diet – did you know that there are other more effective ways to look great on the beach? Read on to discover our quick fixes for that last minute boost of confidence and reveal that bikini body you already have…

    Get a golden glow

Rocking up to a sun-drenched beach looking as white as a sheet isn’t cool – nobody likes walking around their holiday destination looking like they’ve just arrived (even if they have!)

If you want to arrive at your hotel pool looking like you have been there for weeks already, grab a bottle of tan from your local chemist and fake it! We love St Tropez Gradual Tan body lotion, which slowly builds up a natural looking bronzed look.

    Exercise

If you feel less than body confident, then try starting an exercise regime a couple of months before you go away. It will help you tone up, but the benefits are far more than cosmetic and superficial.

Exercise will make you feel good both inside and out, as regular exercise can dramatically reduce your chances of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, stroke and even some types of cancer. It can boost your mood and even help you sleep better – which in turn will leave you looking refreshed and happy by the time your holiday comes around.

What’s more, you can start just by walking quickly for half an hour 5 times a week, so there’s no excuse not to fit some physical activity somewhere into your daily routine. Who knows, you may find you keep these good habits up, even when you return from holiday!

    Drink plenty of water

Upping your H20 intake can also do wonders for your body. As well as suppressing appetite, boosting your metabolism and helping your body burn calories, it has a great effect on your skin and nails.

Having plenty of water in your diet can give you strong and beautiful nails, and it helps moisturise your skin from the inside out, perfect preparation for spending all day in the drying (albeit glorious!) sunshine.

    Do a pre-holiday detox

    Forget the wine

Finally, use your holiday as motivation to cut out toxins such as smoking, alcohol and excessive caffeine.

    • Stopping smoking can do wonders for your skin, as it can slow down the aging process and make you look younger for longer. Not to mention better looking teeth, more energy and improved mental wellbeing.
    • Excessive alcohol consumption can also have the same dehydrating effect on skin, and there are a lot of hidden calories in beer, spirits and wine.
    • If you consume more than 500 to 600 mg of caffeine a day (about 4 cups of coffee), it can have a detrimental effect on your sleep, which can wreak havoc on your skin and give you those big dark circles around the eyes – not very attractive!

We all know that these can be bad for you, so why not time your detox so that you can reap the benefits while on holiday?
