A romantic break in Kos
With beautiful beaches, wide-ranging resorts and picturesque whitewashed buildings, Kos is the ideal holiday destination for a romantic getaway. Spend your days wandering the ancient villages, ruins or relaxing on the beach and your early evenings sampling the variety of cuisines in the trio of ‘most popular’ towns.
As for nightlife there are more than enough bars and clubs throughout the island to choose from, or you can just retire to your room to enjoy the facilities and comfort of your great-value resort.
We’ve already looked at introducing Kos as one of Falcon’s newest destinations for 2015 for all the family, but here’s what you can get up to on a romantic break on one of Greece’s most beach-adorned islands.
Just 15 minutes from Kos Airport you’ll find the vivacious resort of Kardamena. Young or lively couples will love it here thanks to the wealth of nightlife opportunities. Sports lovers can catch the matches at Memories, Bar 1960 is great for drinking the traditional ouzo, or try The Pub for a traditional boozer.
If all night partying isn’t your thing, or at least not for your romantic break, couples can also make the most of the food options on the harbour. The most popular restaurants include Pelagos for the seafood and sea views, Avli for the Greek cuisine or The Garden for the cooling foliage that protects you from the sun.
The biggest attraction in Kefalos is the Kamari Resort beach. The sandy stretch is famous for its water sports and the swimming there is top notch. When you tire of the beauty, just down the road is Paradise Beach – blue seas and white sands are waiting!
As for romance, steal a few kisses as you walk through an idyllic white-washed town complete with ancient windmills and glimpses of beautiful scenery. Or book a boat trip out of Kos and visit the volcanic island of Nissyros. Romantics will love the picturesque harbour, charming villages and striking landscapes to be seen here.
If you’re after a bit of culture head towards the ancient temple ruins and you’ll find a Byzantine church and the remains of an amphitheatre. Spread your wings a little further by hiring a bicycle or car here and who knows, you might find your own private little cove away from the tourists. Head north and you’ll end up at the stunning beach at Limnionas, which is well worth a photo for your mantelpiece.
Evenings can be wiled away at bars, restaurants and discos in Kefalos – make sure to try Bar Sydney, Argo and Caramela respectively. You’ll find some great ones along the harbour too.
If all you want out of your holiday is a relaxing break to spend a week or two looking into your beloved’s eyes with no interruptions then Tingaki is the Kos resort for you. It’s not far from Kos Town, just 10 minutes if you decide you do need some action, and it’s the most chilled out resort on the island.
There’s just a small range of eateries to choose from; try Esperos for a traditional Greek taverna meal or Dia Mas, which also comes highly recommended. The Mayflower bar and Kobotis on the main strip always promise a good night out if you want to enjoy a drink with some atmosphere. Combine this with a sandy beach and a few water sports and you really have the perfect recipe for unwinding and relaxing together.
Talking of romance, where’s the most romantic place you’ve ever been?
