  • Book early! A guide to the best deals for summer 2015

Right now, in the last days of summer, when your previous holiday is still fresh in your memory and you feel relatively rejuvenated after a week of hedonistic sun, it may seem slightly premature to start thinking about next year’s trip. A year away can seem like forever and might seem like torture to start trawling through the brochures when any hope of another week of relaxation is a long time off.

However, there are definitely huge advantages to getting that family holiday booked way in advance.

    Bag a bargain

Many tour operators and holiday companies offer discount deals for an early purchase. Think money off, extra nights or even freebies – yes, free breakfast or free child places can be up for grabs. Whatever it might be, often booking way in advance can mean getting more for your money.

    Pay over time

Booking that family week to Greece or the girls’ getaway to Marbella now means that you can pay it off over time too. Instead of one large sum draining your bank account for the holiday you booked for next month, you can reserve your dream holiday with a deposit and pay the rest when you are ready, up to 8 weeks before your departure in some cases. This way you can enjoy your sunshine retreat without fearing the arrival of those dreaded credit card bills. Think how good it will feel to be able to pay for your dream trip at an affordable time – and still have time to save up spending money to indulge yourself when you get there!

    It’s all about choice

For those taking the early bird plunge, a planned break means more choice and no disappointment.

Availability for accommodation is higher and you can often opt for more suitable flight times. Leaving it until the last minute could mean a smaller room, a twilight flight or even no holiday at all. It is true that in this case the early bird catches the… well, the sun.

    FOMO

Social media is full of people talking about their Fear Of Missing Out, and when it comes to the best holiday destinations, this is a big one. Booking in advance can dispel that fear and allow you to relax all year round safe in the knowledge that while friends may be stuck at home missing out, you’ll be able to whip out the fun holiday snaps and return back to your desk, bronzed and feeling happy.

Time to plan the perfect trip

As September slides into October and the months slowly whittle by, there will be windows of time when you can start planning the trip in detail. Where the kids want to swim, what excursions to do, the things the teens have to see and the restaurants perfect for little ones. With a year in front of you there is more than enough time to iron out those little details so you’re holiday ready and prepared to make the most out of your time off when it comes around.

    Something to look forward to

    Smiley face in the sand

When the shorter days start creeping in and the indoor activities are have the kids a little cooped up, you’ll be able to breathe a sigh of relief knowing that you’ve got a sunny summer break coming up. You can start to work on the beach bod, choose your summer reads and pick out the attractions you want to visit. Having an exotic holiday booked way in advance drags you through the winter bringing you out the other side excited and ready to go.
