Kos for all the family
The Greek Island of Kos is a stunning retreat dotted with picture perfect bays and long stretches of immaculate white sandy beaches. Set within the South Aegean Sea it has a history full of myth and legend and has welcomed visitors since ancient times.
Alongside the fishing villages, interesting traditional whitewashed buildings and hilltop views there are modern resorts like Kos Town and Marmari Beach that offer everything your family could want from a relaxing break. If you have never visited this part of the Mediterranean then summer 2015 could be the ideal time to experience the wonderful welcome you will receive from the island’s top tourist resorts.
Holiday Village, Kos
A new addition to the range, the Holiday Village in Kos is exclusive to Falcon Holidays in Ireland. Perfectly positioned opposite the beach and only 1km from Marmari Village, the family centred location brings together fun, games and relaxation in one attractive package.
You’ll be able to choose from double rooms or family rooms, some with handy partitions, which include modern fixtures and fittings like flat screen televisions, mini-fridges, iPod docks, PlayStation consoles and espresso machines. When you are not resting in your family accommodation, enjoy a triple helping of swimming pools including a huge lake-style area and an activity pool. There’s also a pool bar on hand so you can help yourself to a chilled drink while the children splash around.
Kids can have an active stay in the sunshine by joining in specially organised activities or using some of the sporting facilities including a beach volleyball court and a purpose-built assault course. For an extra charge, consider enrolling the kids in the football academy for ages 5-16 with sessions from FA or UEFA qualified coaches.
One of the best reasons to visit Kos is that you can find resorts catering for families and also discover one of the finest beaches on the Mediterranean. Marmari beach on the north coast of the isle is a relaxing haven that is the pride and joy of the locals. Even during the high season of summer it rarely gets crowded so you will always find yourself a sun lounger and a place to enjoy the peace and quiet. The beach is close to Kos itself where you will find a lively atmosphere and historic sites including the collection of Roman ruins and a Medieval castle!
Blue Lagoon Village
Set in a secluded bay overlooking the Aegean Village, the Blue Lagoon Village has a backdrop of turquoise sea views and a relaxing top of the range resort ideally suited to families. There is a wide choice of spacious room types, ranging from family suites to rooms with their own luxury private pool.
The Kids’ Clubs will keep 3-11 year olds entertained with up to two hours of activities, five days a week, including at least three evenings. The complex’s four swimming pools include over 3,000 metres of relaxation space with exciting features like Jacuzzis and water jets. Over at the activity pool, kids will find a terrific place to play with water guns, slides and even a pirate ship to climb aboard!
At night the terraces and piazzas allow you to wander between the different restaurants and bars. There’s an outdoor amphitheatre where you can take in a stage show from a line-up including dance extravaganzas and touring singers. Impressive dinner options include an Aegean buffet restaurant with local cuisine, a beach snack bar and a full barbeque restaurant – perfect if the kids are a bit picky.
Kos Island is a beautiful environment for a family holiday with the benefit of an unspoilt location, established resorts and idyllic scenery. You’ll soon find that each member of the family can have the kind of trip that suits them. The Greek Islands in general have an ideal climate for lounging by a pool or taking a dip in the sea. Equally, you’ll never be bored with the range of water sports available, historic sites to discover or local hospitality to sample.
