Weather Report: Costa Dorada
Boasting Blue Flag beaches and warm weather, the sunny climate of Costa Dorada attracts holidaymakers by the bucket load. Sitting on Spain’s north east coast, this popular part of Catalonia offers visitors the chance to just soak up the sun or to get out and make the most of both the weather and the waters with activities such as sailing, windsurfing and diving, to name a few. With beaches such as Llevant, Ponent, llarga, Platja dels Llenguedets and Plaja dels Capellans all infusing Salou with its quintessential character, this resort is a dream if you want to snorkel, go diving, sailing or windsurfing in the sun. If you’re heading to Salou, you should always pack sun cream, especially from June onwards with average maximum temperatures hitting the 20s. August is a real scorcher, hitting 30°C, and then the heat gradually winds down to the mid and low 20s in September.
Lying 15 minutes south of Salou, and 1 hour 20 minutes from Reus airport, Cambrils is ideal for diving, sailing and windsurfing. If you make your holiday getaway to Cambrils in July or August you can top up your tan in tune with average temperatures of 28°C. Arrive a little earlier in June and you still have to bring out the sun cream. The temperatures are fractionally cooler at between 23 and 27°C.
Located in the province of Tarragona and 40 minutes from Reus airport, if you’re looking for as much sunshine as possible, July is the best time to hit La Pineda. There the average number of hours of sunshine in July is 10 hours, allowing you plenty of time to catch a few rays, but on a par with August in terms of temperatures at 28°C.
Situated only an hour from Barcelona, PortAventura is both a theme park and resort provides holidaymakers to the Costa Dorada with thrills and spills to enjoy under a fine summer sky. Close to the quaint towns of La Pineda and Vila-seca you can enjoy an average of 28°C while on rides such as the Dragon Khan roller coaster or cool off in the PortAventura Aquatic Park.
