Planning Ahead for Your October Break to the Canaries

Planning breaks over the summer when the school holidays are in full swing can be expensive and harried, but holding off a couple of months can allow you to save a lot of money, and squeeze in a little sun before winter sets in.

October is a great time to book a holiday to somewhere warm and wonderful like the Canary Islands, because whilst the colder weather takes hold of Ireland, the temperature on these Spanish islands are still hitting highs of 25ºC.

Here’s a brief guide to planning ahead for your October break to the Canary Islands, and some suggested things to see or do while you’re there.

    Plan in advance

Everyone loves having a holiday to look forward to, but it can also be far easier on your purse strings if you have everything planned in advance. You can set out all the expenses beforehand and  look for the best package deals, which can cover a lot of your holiday expenses — and make life much more straightforward for you.

    Hitting Tenerife

The south of Tenerife is the warmest part of the island and visitors make a particular beeline for Los Cristianos, Playa de las Americas and Costa Adeje. These areas in the south west of the island are all fairly close to each other, so you’ll have every opportunity to explore all three while on your holiday.

If you like browsing the shops, Los Cristianos is the part of the island for you, with shopping centres like the Safari Centre which features a host of designer stores, like Armani and Hugo Boss. Visitors in search of adventure or just wanting to cool off will enjoy Siam Park, a water park in Costa Adeje, while the Playa de las Americas is famous for its nightlife.

    Enjoying Gran Canaria

Pack your summer gear, and relax on Gran Canaria’s beaches, where you can experience the vast sand dunes of Maspalomas. Or if you’re feeling energetic visit Palmitos Park, a zoological and botanical park also in Maspalomas. The park has a dolphinarium, an aquarium which features children’s favourites such as the Clown Fish, and loveable mammals like meerkats and birds in all their vividly coloured magnificence such as toucans, flamingos and lories.

    Exploring Lanzarote

While on Lanzarote, you should explore Timanfaya National Park and tour the volcanoes. You can even cross the volcanic landscape on camel back. Be sure to bring good footwear to comfortably navigate the terrain.

If you’re feeling particularly active, you might want to explore the island by bike. Bike tour operators on the island offer a range of trails, including traversing the volcanic landscape by bike, or touring the local  cafés. So whether you’re a serious biking enthusiast looking to put the pedal to the metal or a traveller seeking a fun way to see the island, you can achieve both aims with a bike tour.

We hope this  brief guide helps you to make the most out of your October break in the Canary Islands. But there’s plenty to do that we haven’t been able to list, so give yourself some time to research the things you want to see and do on these lovely islands.
