  • The Ultimate Itinerary for Travelling around Corfu by Car

Hiring a car is one of the best ways to explore Corfu and experience the joys of the island at your own pace. Free from the constraints of bus timetables, and with the best part of your expenses set out from the start, you can make your way from beautiful A to brilliant B and we have just the itinerary for you. Starting with some site-seeing in Corfu town and then heading to the blissful northwest coast to take in the scenery, beaches and get a taste of authentic Greek life.

    Aghios Ioannis

The holiday begins with some relaxation in the charming village of Aghios Ioannis before you take the car out and see what else Corfu has to offer. We begin the day at your hotel, the Aqualand Village, which has the Aqualand waterpark nearby. After a good breakfast in the hotel, you can set off on the short 10 kilometre drive to Corfu town, admiring the silver tinted olive groves along the way.

    Corfu Town

Once you arrive in the old town it’s time to take in the attractions and get in amongst the hustle and bustle. The Old Town of Corfu is a World Heritage Site and the Old Fortress should have made it to the top of your list, due to the history behind it and the enjoyable walk entailed in the visit. At the top of the site you can appreciate a 360 degree view across the town and the harbour.

    Kalami

From Corfu town you should get back behind the wheel and make Kalami, which is 28 kilometres away, your next port of call. Don’t forget to pack a towel and some snorkelling gear for your trip to this tranquil little beach, backed by verdant hillside and boasting crystal clear waters. You’ll have no trouble spotting the various fish just below the surface. It’s a wonderful place to take a few holiday snaps.

    Roda

Just 22 kilometres away and third on the itinerary is the peaceful fishing village of Roda. The long stretches of sand and shallow waters allow safe, pleasurable relaxation time on the beach. The village is also a venue for animal lovers, who can take a ride through the olive groves on horseback and also admire the views. The riding schools cater for all levels of experience. Roda is an unforgettable experience for all the family.

    Sidari

Calling in at the final destination of the itinerary, Sidari only lies 10 km north of Roda and a late lunch is long overdue. Head to the family run Orchard Restaurant for traditional Greek food, in picturesque gardens for a sensational dining experience after a busy day. The owners cook with vegetables they grow in their garden. The souvlaki, meatballs and moussaka are all highly rated. You also can’t leave the Orchard without sampling the lemon cake, which is made with home-grown lemons.

From there the return journey begins. Take a detour, though, to see the donkey sanctuary in Paleokastritsa. Seeing the rescued donkeys, kittens and puppies will warm your heart and you’ll be glad you made the stop.

If that hasn’t given you enough reasons to hire a car on your next visit to Corfu, there are loads of other sites that will inspire you to come back year after year. Why not call in again with Falcon Holidays?
