  • The Most Fun Family Activities to Do in Cancun

Long gone are the days when Cancun seemed like a place only rowdy teenagers would holiday. Today, this quirky sun-drenched paradise is the perfect escape for families seeking adventure, offering all kinds of activities they can enjoy together. Here are our suggestions for how you and your family can pack the most fun into your Cancun holiday with the family.

    Wet ‘n’ Wild Cancun

If you and the kids want to step away from the blissful beaches, you can all cool down at the engaging Wet ‘n’ Wild Cancun. This water park has everything from a Lazy River to dolphin shows and crazy water rides! Unlimited drinks and meals are included in the price as well, making the day out all the more affordable. The park is a terrific way to keep the kids active while you’re on holiday but still have a smashing — or should we say splashing! — time.

    El Parque de las Palapas

This park has been a gathering spot for locals for years and is especially busy on Sundays when worshippers come to the oldest church in the city, which sits on one end of the park. The crowds all add to the atmosphere, though. Browse the many stalls in the park and try local dishes such as marquesitas (a crêpes-like snack containing a cheese filling) and fried bananas.

The kids can play on motorised cars, have a game of football or expend some of their endless energy reserves in the playground. They can even do a spot of painting. There are also free shows in the park at the weekends.

    Isla Mujeres

Just a short boat trip from Cancun lies Isla Mujeres. Kids will love everything about this small tropical paradise, from taking the ferry there to playing on the beaches (or snorkelling on them!) and exploring the downtown area.  There’s also a turtle conservation farm. Parents and children alike will have trouble resisting the urge to cuddle those cute little baby turtles!

    Ziplining

Older children will leap at the chance to go ziplining at adventure parks like Selvatica. Flying at top speed over the treetops, rivers and beautiful jungle surrounding Cancun is a chance for them to get out into nature, experience a different side of the region and embark upon a little adventure all at the same time. Most companies are reasonably priced and the guides are immensely patient, which contributes to the idyllic feel of this day trip outside the city.

    Kid-Friendly Hotels

It’s not just the activities that make this part of the world such an inviting location for a family holiday. Many of the hotels receive families with open arms, especially if you venture a little further south into the Riviera Maya, where the hospitality really sparkles.

Roughly half an hour from Cancun, the Sensatori Mexico features a separate pool for children. There’s a toy room for younger children and also the Azulito’s Play House kids’ club. The hotel is also a little easier on the wallet, with all-inclusive dining options to suit the family.

The Grand Sirenis Resort and Spaon the Riviera Maya, also boasts a kids’ club and children’s swimming pool, plus evening entertainment. While the kids splash around, parents can happily relax in the whirlpool baths.

When it comes to family friendly, the Grand Bahia Principe Coba on the Riviera Maya really pushes the boat out. Entertainments include live music and karaoke, and there is a huge children’s water park. Adults can take a break from all the excitement with some time out in the spa sauna or steam room, or pamper themselves with a soothing massage.
