5 Perfect Destinations for a Father’s Day Holiday
Just in case you’re asking, ‘When is Father’s Day?’ we can tell you that it’s on Sunday 19th of June this year. That gives you at least a couple of weeks to scramble around for a Father’s Day gift! One way to give your dad a real treat is to book a last minute holiday for him. We’d like to make a few suggestions of destinations that are perfect for a Father’s Day holiday.
Dad couldn’t fail to love Jamaica, thanks to its warm weather and the balance between relaxation and exploration offered here. You can take advantage of night excursions to the Glistening Waters lagoon, near Falmouth, where the organisms in the lagoon give the water a unique glow. The Dunn’s River Falls, near Ocho Rios, is another natural beauty that you can admire as you stroll through the landscape. Finally the Green Grotto Caves provide a retreat from the sunshine and some underground exploration.
Mexico is just the place for dad to get adventurous at mealtimes by trying new foods. Tamales are one. These dough pockets are filled with a sweet or savoury filling, wrapped in banana leaves and then steamed. Your family will just have to remember to take the leaves off before eating these tasty treats!
A trip to Mexico is also dad’s chance to boast about seeing Chichen Itza, the ancient site that was once the capital of the Mayan empire. Take him off the beaten track, though, for a swim in one of the nearby cenotes. The Yokdzonot Cenote is just 20 minutes away from the site, the water is revitalising and there’s hardly a soul around.
This is a real family man’s island and a place that dad will love. He can enjoy a day out with the family at Siam Park, Costa Adeje, splashing around to his heart’s content. There’s also scope to spend a bit of time bonding by taking a hike up Mount Teide.
Dad should definitely take his camera to the island too. As well as creating a photo diary of his exploits on Mount Teide, he can head out to sea on an excursion to photograph the dolphins. Tours regularly leave Los Cristianos and Los Gigantes, allowing visits to see this magical marine life.
The volcanoes steal the show in this Canary Island and the Islote de Hilario, in Timanfaya National Park, is the centrepiece. If dad likes a hearty grill, he’ll love being at the summit, where you can eat meat and fish cooked using the heat from the volcano itself. You can also view the park from the back of a camel by going on a safari!
In the town of Teguise, which was once the capital of Lanzarote, you’ll be able to pick up some fancy items at Teguise Market. Why not bag some extra, last minute Father’s Day gifts? Maybe dad has taken a shine to the wallets or the belts?
Bulgaria is just that little bit different to other destinations. Book your trip as a Father’s Day gift, and dad will be able to catch the Spirit of Burgas Festival in August. This is one of the biggest festivals in Eastern Europe, and is becoming as popular as some of the mainstream festivals in Western Europe. Showcasing a variety of genres such as rock, dance and hip hop, the festival has hosted some of the biggest names around, including electronic music legend Moby. Dad will feel like he’s 18 again!
A trip to any one of these destinations makes for a memorable Father’s Day gift. Of course, this is just a selection of the holidays we offer. Choose from more inviting destinations for a holiday dad will never forget.
