Amazing Places that Make Jamaica One of the World’s Best Islands
TripAdvisor has ranked Jamaica the third Best Island in the World for 2016 and we’re proud to offer this Caribbean gem as a Falcon destination. The air is infused with a relaxed, friendly vibe and the weather is quite simply out of this world. Here we take a look at some of the places that make this setting so wonderful.
Situated in Stewart Town, Trelawny, the Dornoch Riverhead is a freshwater pool surrounded by cliffs. This inspiring piece of nature is seriously off the beaten track – there are very few tourists. If you make the journey to the river, the prize at the end is your very own slice of paradise. The water is a glistening turquoise blue and you’ll find yourself wanting to dive straight in.
White River Valley
White River Valley, Ocho Rios, is an exceptional area for leisure activities. You can go mountain biking amid the peaks, go on a hiking trail or try horseback riding. If that’s all a little too adventurous, why not just opt for a family picnic? The star attraction in this area, though, is tube rafting. It’s exhilarating and you’ll get an adrenaline rush from it, whether you’re doing it individually or in a group. Some excursions will combine a visit to the White River Valley with one to the famous Dunn’s River Falls.
A visit to the Martha Brae River in Trelawny, while you’re on your Jamaican holiday, will reveal a calmer side to the island. You’ll hear the woodpeckers working away on the trees as you float down this three-mile stretch of river on a raft. The guides are local and have an immense knowledge of the area, so feel free to ask them any questions. The rafts even have seating, for a comfortable journey. If you want to make this a romantic outing, the guide will be far enough at the front of the raft so you have some privacy.
You may be wondering why on earth we’ve included this café in our list of amazing places. Well, this café in Negril perches atop a cliff and you’ll see the most awesome sunsets ever if you grab a bite to eat here.
You’ll also encounter daredevil locals and tourists who jump off the cliffs into the gorgeously clear waters below. The drops are especially high – one is 35 feet – and some of the locals actually jump from the tops of the trees that are on the cliff itself. You’re not expected to jump yourself though, thankfully!
Jamaica may have earned a major share of the limelight, but some of our other destinations can also bask in the glory. Gran Canaria, Rhodes, Tenerife and Crete all made it into TripAdvisor’s Top 10 European Islands. Visit them with Falcon Holidays and see why they’ve garnered such a stellar reputation.
