Too Cool for School: Best Ibiza Resorts for Older Kids
As kids get older, their notion of what’s cool and what’s not can change rapidly from one day to the next. As you’d expect, this also applies to their choice of holiday destination! The good news is that thanks to its beaches, leisure activities and general atmosphere, the Balearic Island of Ibiza is a family friendly destination that will always be ‘in’. We’ve picked out the best resorts that older children will enjoy and at the same time preserve their street cred, showing that, deep down, parents rock!
On the east coast of Ibiza, a little north of Santa Eulalia, the resort of Es Cana has the right level excitement for both young children or teens while still making for a relaxing family holiday. Leave them to grab some shade under central beach’s palm trees and tap away on their mobiles if they wish while you soak up the Ibizan sun. If they’re feeling active, that’s fine too – they can bathe in the refreshing surf or go water skiing, windsurfing or sailing.
Teenagers aren’t particularly big fans of shopping with their parents, but Ibiza’s legendary Hippy Market will soon change that. Chat with quirky stall owners whilst your kids shop amongst the colourful range of jewellery, clothing and handmade leather goods.
Playa d’en Bossa
Playa d’en Bossa, in the south of the island, appeals to all as it’s one of Ibiza’s most popular resorts. In fact, it has Ibiza’s longest stretch of beach at over two kilometres long. This gives teenagers the opportunity to ‘lose the olds’ and relax in one of many chill-out spaces. They can do this with a wander over to the Ibiza old town, Dalt Vila, situated at one end of the beach, or to the more peaceful watchtower area at the other end.
Playa d’en Bossa offers more adventurous activities, such as stand up paddleboarding (SUP), kayaking and banana boating. If they’re feeling even more active, they can participate in that popular pastime of beach volleyball, and why not? The Ibiza weather is happy to comply!
Port d’es Torrent
Sitting in San Antonio Bay is the tranquil resort of Port d’es Torrent. Here, older children can get their parents out of their hair in an inviting retreat that allows them to just laze on the sands. It’s a place where they can forget about exams and essays, playing Candy Crush or finding out which housemate has been evicted from Big Brother.
Why not book the older children onto one of the boating excursions or snorkelling or scuba diving outings in the resort? This is their golden opportunity – everyone’s, actually – to explore caves under the sea and appreciate the beauty of marine life up close. The island is rich in biodiversity, above and below sea level. You might even spot some humpback whales! Experienced, qualified instructors will be on hand to supervise.
Visiting any of these spots will give your family plenty of stories to share. When they get back to school and talk about their holiday photos and social media posts, they could become the envy of their friends. Book an Ibiza family holiday with us and your older children be grateful – even if they hide it well!
