Benefitting from over 300 days of sunshine each year, it’s unsurprising Cyprus is one of the most popular year-round destinations. Ideal for families, couples and independent travellers, there’s something to suit everyone on this tiny island.
If you’re planning on holidaying in this beautiful Greek island this year, one of the main questions you may have is what to pack. Here, we’ll look at some of the best packing essentials you’ll want to add to your Cyprus travel checklist.
Understand your luggage restrictions
The first thing you’ll want to plan ahead for is the potential luggage restrictions in place. Unless you want to start your trip to Cyprus feeling stressed and out of pocket, knowing how much luggage you can take with you is essential.
At TUI, our general luggage restrictions are 15kg. However, there may be certain types of holidays which account for 20kg. So, you’ll need to double check the luggage allowance when booking your specific Cyprus holiday. You can also take one piece of hand luggage, with a maximum weight of 10kg.
It’s worth noting that if you’re flying with a different airline provider, they will have their own luggage restrictions. You’ll find out what these restrictions are on your confirmation email.
Try not to pack too heavy. One of the great things about Cyprus is that it has all of the holiday essentials you might need in its local stores.
What clothing will you need?
One of the hardest parts of packing for a Cyprus getaway is knowing what clothing to pack. This will depend upon numerous factors such as what you plan to do on your holiday. However, as the country benefits from more than 300 days sunshine, you can pretty much get away with packing a limited, light wardrobe. This includes day dresses, one evening outfit and basic t-shirts.
It is a good idea to pack a long-sleeve shirt for days where it might be windy. You’ll also want to protect your feet from the heat, with flip flops being the perfect footwear of choice during the day.
What about toiletries?
As you can buy a lot of essentials in Cyprus, you can save some much-needed packing space by purchasing toiletries when you get there; particularly sunscreen. However, there are some toiletries you may prefer to take with you due to limited or different options abroad. These include:
- Toothpaste and toothbrush
- Insect repellent
- Make up
When packing toiletries, don’t forget to double check they’re packed correctly in travel-size, see-through containers.
Electronics and accessories
You’ll want to pack a few electronics to keep you entertained, whether for lazy beach days or for winding down in the evenings. An iPad, Smartphones and Kindles tend to be the most popular holiday electronics. Just remember you may also need plug adapters. Cyprus makes use of Irish 3-pin outlets.
Accessory wise, you’ll want to pack sunglasses, a hat and a sarong. If you hate applying sunscreen too frequently, you could also take a rash guard for convenience.
One thing you will not want to forget is your currency. Cyprus uses euros and it is best to take some cash with you even if you prefer to use your card.
These are just some of the best things to pack for a Cyprus holiday. If you follow the guidelines above, you should easily be able to pack everything you need without going over your luggage limit.
