    Switzerland is without doubt one of the most scenic countries in the world. It’s renowned for its cleanliness, excellent health system and beautiful views. This makes it a popular choice for hikers and adventure lovers. However, did you know that it’s also great for festival goers?

    Paléo Festival

    The Paléo Festival has been running since 1976 and it’s one of Switzerland’s biggest open-air festival. It attracts more than 230,000 people and is spread out over six days. In that time, festival goers can watch 250 different acts. It’s known to attract some of the biggest names in music. Artists such as Tracy Chapman and the Red Hot Chili Peppers have performed at the festival over the years. 

    The festival takes place in Nyon in the third week of July. If you’re staying in Montreux, you’ll be able to reach the festival in just under an hour.  

    Openair St.Gallen

    The Openair St.Gallen festival is Switzerland’s version of Glastonbury. This means it consistently attracts big name artists such as Florence and the Machine. It’s been running for over 40 years and spreads out across four days. Approximately 100,000 people flock to the festival each year. There’s a diverse range of music performed too, ensuring there’s something to suit all music tastes. 

    It’s held in June and is situated just outside of St. Gallen. You can base your holiday in Lucerne and travel to the festival while you’re there.

     

    Montreux Jazz Festival

    The Montreux Jazz Festival is the biggest jazz festival in Europe. You’ll get to watch some of the most famous artists perform, as well as discover up and coming talent. You’ll also get to partake in lots of free events throughout the festival. If you love jazz and blues music, you’ll want to add this event to your diary.

    The festival is in early July in Montreux. It’s one of the most famous festivals in Switzerland and is guaranteed not to disappoint. Nearly 250,000 people attend the festival each year.  

    Gauklerfest

    If you’re looking for a fun festival to attend, Gauklerfest is ideal. Street performers from around the globe flock to Interlaken to show off their skills. You’ll see comedians, jugglers and contortionists as well as many other acts. It’s a three-day event which takes place in July each year. This festival is especially good for families. 

    The World Snow Festival

    Get that magical feeling by attending the annual World Snow Festival in Grindelwald. Held towards the end of January, you’ll get to witness extraordinary ice sculptures. It runs for six days, during which ice sculptures are spread across the majority of the town.
