  • Fun Things to Do with Kids in the Canaries

The Canary Islands are a popular choice for families. A gorgeous year-round climate and pristine beaches attract thousands of tourists each year. However, that’s not all that these islands have to offer.

If you want to get the most out of your next family getaway to the Canaries, below we’ll reveal some of the must-dos to add to your itinerary.

    Tenerife

With its dramatic scenery and miles of sandy beaches, it’s unsurprising Tenerife is one of the most popular family destinations. There’s a great range of attractions on offer, with two of the best being Siam Park and Loro Parque.

Siam Park has been rated the number one water park in the Traveller’s Choice awards for the sixth year in a row. You’ll find a range of attractions at the park to suit all ages, from the relaxing Mai Thai River to the adrenaline pumping Mekong Rapids. The park also hosts numerous events throughout the year.

Loro Parque was originally created as a parrot paradise. Over the years, it’s managed to attract almost 50 million tourists. Today, it houses the largest collection of parrots in the world. However, it’s now also home to mammals, reptiles and fish. You’ll get to see a diverse range of animals from lions and killer whales to alligators and jellyfish. Like Siam Park, it also hosts a range of events throughout the year.

Both of these parks are located in the Santa Cruz region of Tenerife. If you’re staying in nearby Costa Adeje, you can easily take a day trip to these popular parks.

    Gran Canaria

Whitewashed villages and over 120 miles of coastline draw thousands of families to Gran Canaria each year. The third biggest island in the Canaries, it boasts dramatic scenery and lots of family-friendly attractions. Some of our favourites include Aqualand and the Angry Birds Activity Park.

Aqualand is situated in the Maspalomas region. There are slides to suit all ages, along with a variety of adrenaline pumping rides. There’s even a dedicated mini park for younger children, and a relaxing Pirate’s River for those looking for a more chilled out ride. For those not keen on water rides, there are also mini golf and pool tables on offer.

The Angry Birds Activity Park is situated in the Puerto Rico region. The park is aimed at children aged 12 and under. There are around 25 different activities here, including go karting and crazy golf. You’ll get stamped as you enter the park, meaning you can go in and out throughout the day.

    Lanzarote

With its famous volcanic landscapes, Lanzarote offers a unique and memorable family getaway. It boasts some of the best beaches in the world, along with a fantastic collection of family attractions. Two that we highly recommend are Submarine Safaris and Rancho Texas Lanzarote Park.

You and the family will board a state-of-the-art submarine before diving 30 metres underwater. You’ll get to see fascinating marine life from the viewing portholes, along with a rusty shipwreck. After the dive, you’ll each be presented with a personalised certificate. It’s a great fun-packed activity the kids are sure to love.

Rancho Texas Lanzarote Park is situated in Puerto del Carmen, Home to a variety of mammals, birds and reptiles, the park has a diverse range of activities. There are exhibitions, pony rides and even the chance to interact with some of the park’s animals. You’ll also be able to tuck into delicious American style meals. It’s a unique Texas experience you’ll find nowhere else in the Canaries.

These are just some of our recommended activities with children in the Canaries. Browse our full range of Canary Islands holidays now.
