Bad Not as described in brochure or on line
On arrival first day lovely sun shine went to pool bar it was shut only opened one day for a few hours our entire stay. Went to book to eat at onwe of the many restaurants only to be told they were shut. the only place other than main restaurant to eat on complex was Italian that was open in the day time, you could get a late continental breakfast from 10.30 to 11.30. A lady went to get a coffee and as she was in the middle of pouring it one of the staff switched the machine off leaving her with half a cup when the person spoke to him he pointed at his watch and said to late, it was 11.30am. The next day this closed down so only place left was main restaurant. The bars and entertainment were not exactly as described, it was advertised they had shows every night. The show in the main fiesta bar started at 9.30pm prompt and finished at 10.30pm prompt, then nothing. We went over to the Karoake bar nothing was happening no music nothing was told it starts at 11pm on the dot some one came in put karaoke on then switched it all off at 12 midnight prompt, I quered this as advertised as staying open to 8am was told could get a drink until 8 am but no music allowed. The outside bar at the top also failed to open The amphitheatre also never opened The food in the main restaurant left a lot to be desired I have gone to many all inclusive and usually there is a good mix this was well below in standard to others I have visited, I have been on cheap 3 star holidays that have provided better food and entertainment, It was a shame as actual hotel looks nice and could be with better staff I feel if most of the restaurant facilities were shut we should of all been told this before we booked we was not this is false advertisingMore
I traveled to Bulgaria for the first time with my boyfriend for one week, 22nd to the 28th of September. First off, this hotel is absolutely massive, and beautiful. Every part of the hotel was clean and well maintained. The hotel has massive beautiful pools which are lovely but absolutely freezing! However, our stay was very far from a four stars. We arrived late on the Friday night to be greeted by a reasonably friendly guy at reception and orange squash.. Everyone was extremely hungry after an hour long transfer (that was supposed to be 30 mins according to Thomson although our driver seemed to be rather lost..) and we were told we could find food in two restaurants at this hour. After dropping our bags at reception we went down to find tomatoes, cucumber and some cheese. Not what you want after a very long day. In our welcome meeting we were informed that the five restaurants that led us to choose this hotel were all closed due to the end of season, meaning we had to eat the same food for lunch and dinner every night of the week.. Personally think it is absolutely that this was not mentioned to us by Thomson before booking this resort. On our second night in the hotel we returned from a meal out, to find our fridge was overheating. Everything in our fridge was hot and there was a funny burning smell and noise. We phoned reception and 11.30 and asked for someone to come and simply unplug the fridge so we could sleep. We were informed by a man that someone would be coming up shortly, after a forty minute wait we rung again and were greeted by a different woman who speaking no English what so ever and just continually said no to me down the phone. I went down to reception to find the same lady who made no effort to understand and simply shrugged at me. Quite clearly the staff were keen to get home and changed over with this woman without telling her or anyone about our issue. I had to ring the Thomson 24/7 hotline and eventually someone came and unplugged our fridge at around 1 am. On our forth night we were returning from dinner to find a burning smell all the way down our hall way, we rang reception and informed them. We heard nothing for a while but eventually the reception staff were checking everyone's rooms and engineers were fixing something. On our sixth night we had a similar problem with our safe, where the code that we'd entered all week simply stopped working. We rang reception again, around 1.30 am and were greeted by the same unfriendly woman who said after explaining our issue she said 'safe' I said 'yes, broken' she then said 'don't know' and hung up on. Whether she understood me or not, I found this completely unacceptable. The rest of the reception staff were equally as impolite and just really odd, accept the friendly bald man. The next day I spoke to the reception manager (Daniela I believe) about the issues the night before and she had our safe fixed. We found her extremely helpful, however when we returned later that morning to check out the girl that heard our complaint to her manager impolitely informed us that when checking out the towels must be returned too. Her manager quickly told her obviously was okay for us to keep them as we did not leave til later that evening. Staff in this hotel quite clearly lack basic customer service and its embarrassing. Would not recommend staying in this area any later than the first week of September the weather was rubbish and literally everywhere was shutting down. We had 3 nice meals out in Hawaii a restaurant just outside sunny beach due to the restaurants in the hotel being the shut down and the food in the hotel not being amazing. Would highly recommend the quad biking! SO much fun, run by such a friendly family in the mountains. loved it. Overall, we had a great holiday because we made it great. However other holiday makers we spoke to were even trying to get earlier flights home.. Will not be going back, this area has very far to go.More
Stayed September 2017 for two weeks with my boyfriend. Firstly this hotel is stunning in a great location. 30/40 minute walk to the strip with shops/bars the whole way there. We went along to sunny beach most evenings as the hotel entertainment was not great. However it was ok just not to our taste. On arrival we were greeted by lovely reception staff who told us they had complementary upgraded our room to a family suite with a sea view. This was lovely and much appreciated. Our first week has brilliant weather 33 one day, the second week was very dull but not cold. Reception do need more seating as one day it rained and there was no where for everyone to go. I would of thought the entertainment would have been brought inside on these days. As we were out in sunny beach most evenings we missed the main breakfast in the restaurant. We went to the restaurant at the pool and had continental breakfast most days. There was a very poor selection and staff always put the toaster off 5 minutes before they shut. Food at the hotel wasn't great, I have stayed at a few all inclusive hotels and this has to be the worst food. However for sunny beach I think it is one of the best for food in hotels. We ate out a good 5/6 times due to this. The hotel do have 3 a la cartes I think but we got told these could be booked right up to 9am. When checking with the Thompson rep she said that these are fully booked for the season. I do think this is poor as we are still paying customers. Cocktail selection was very poor compared to other riu hotels. Some of the bar staff were so nice and some were so rude. We decided not to pay for a safe as it was quite expensive and just hid our valuables. However what I didn't know was it wasn't my valuables I should of hid it was my crisps & Yogurt. I went back to my room one night for my yogurt to be taken from the room and crisps to be eaten with a few left in the packet. This did get reported to the manager as it is still theft. He investigated and pretty much called me and my partner a liar. Like we would lie over crisps and yogurt! After this day we were scared to leave anything unless it got taken. Riu - Maybe you should be feeding your maids? I felt really bad for them by the end of the holiday. I would not return to this hotel but if you have it booked you will have a fab time. Nothing was that major to ruin our holiday.More
We travelled in the last week of September. Checked into the hotel late Friday evening, given room key and list of restaurant opening times and told food was available in the Bulgarian restaurant. All that was there to eat was some cucumber slices, tomatoes, cold slices of meat, cheese and lukewarm soups. The following day we went to the meet and greet with our holiday rep only to find out that the themed restaurants were all closed except for the Asian one which would only be available for 2 more nights. As the week progressed yet more things were closing, the restaurant at the pools stopped serving lunches after Sunday, the toilet facilities by the private beach area closed on Tuesday, the pool bar stopped later in the week. We paid for a sea view room, our room was on the third floor and all we could see were the trees in the grounds because they were so tall, we could even see the swimming pools very well. There are no facilities in the rooms to make tea or coffee, and the coffee available in the lobby is from a machine in polystyrene cups. The bath towels are a little on the small side. My wife slipped on something spilt in the restaurant and sprained her foot, it was reported to the management, she saw the hotel doctor who gave her an injection, but after that there was not one enquiry from the management team as to how she was getting on. As the week progressed we felt as if we were an inconvenience to the hotel by being there. The only members of staff that smiled and spoke to us in a friendly manner were the cleaners. The only food available to us was the buffet restaurant, the food was ok, but very repetitive, the beer tasted watered down. This is not an experience I would like to repeat, and wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone. It is not 4 star in my opinion, It is an all inclusive hotel, and all the facilities should be available to hotel guests until it closes for the winter.More
Fab Hotel for short stay
As we, me and my husband, had never visited Bulgaria before, we did not know what to expect. This was a very last minute holiday and most other countries we were looking at were not available on the dates we wanted to travel. We were very pleased with the hotel, well positioned ie not too close to Sunny Beach but within walking distance if we wanted to enjoy a meal out. The room was large and had a sea view. It was always kept very clean. The staff were extremely friendly and couldn't do enough for us. We were warned that the food in Bulgaria was awful, but that was not the case in or out of the hotel. There was a huge variety of food to choose from in the hotel to suit most preferences. The wine was very good, but it would have been nice to have had more Branded spirits available. We were very lucky with the weather, and even though the water in the pools were cold, it was actually a relief to cool down. The swim up pool was our favourite place. We loved the day trip to Nessebar with its mixture of old and new. Just a local bus or ferry and your there. Perfect! We will definitely be visiting again.More
