Holidays to Limassol are a chance to visit a buzzing city with a bright future. One of the hottest up-and-coming tourist spots in the world, Limassol is an exciting mix of the traditional and the modern. Visit the Old Town and ancient sites during the day, then spend your evening sipping cocktails at the stylish bars in the city.
Limassol Old Town is a lively district packed with beautiful architecture and historical sites of interest. It's where Richard I married Queen Berengaria back in the 12th century, and it later became a military base for the invading Ottomans. Limassol Castle stands right in the centre of the Old Town. It's open to the public from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday.
Limassol is a city on the rise. It's regularly touted as one the most up-and-coming cities in terms of economic growth and all-round quality of life. The leisure and tourism industry is booming, with new restaurants and hotels opening all the time. There's a positive vibe around the city, and the locals are friendly and helpful.
Visit Limassol in the first week of September for the Wine Festival of Cyprus. It's held in the municipal gardens, with stalls selling the best wines in Cyprus from early morning to 11pm. Beer lovers should book their flights for early June. Entrance to the Limassol Beer Festival is free, and it attracts huge crowds, including visitors from all over the world. But the biggest event of all is Limassol Carnival. Kicking off in early March, the 10-day festival includes parades, live music, street theatre, and much more.
