Pissouri holidays are all about showing off Cyprus' best bits. This quiet village is a 30-minute drive to two of the island's biggest towns, and it's got a Blue Flag beach on its doorstep.
The hamlet of Pissouri’s in a spot that’s half-way between Paphos and Limassol, meaning both of these headlining towns are within 35 minutes’ drive. Head east along the coast and you can reach Paphos' restaurant-and-bar-lined harbour, as well as one of the island’s top attractions, Aphrodite’s Rock – legend tells that the Goddess of Love was born here. Drive the same distance west, meanwhile, and Limassol’s collection of Roman ruins tops the list of sights to see.
Pissouri’s split into two part, Pissouri Village and Pissouri Beach. The latter’s a Blue Flag belt of sand and shingle that spreads out for over a kilometre. It’s loaded with public sunbeds and umbrellas, so there’s always a place where you can kick back and work on your tan. It’s got a watersports centre*, too, with things like paddle-boarding, sailing and kayaking on the cards.
Head into the village centre – about a five-minute walk from the beach – and you’ll find a collection of bars, restaurants and tavernas to sink your teeth in to. Pissouri’s known in this part of Cyprus as a produce-heavy village – think vegetable farms, vineyards and lots of fishing. You can sample these different flavours in the various family-run eateries dotted around the main square. Lean lamb cuts, freshly netted seafood and red wine are common on most menus.
