IF YOU LOVE STEPS, THIS IS THE HOTEL FOR YOU
Me and my husband booked this hotel in September for 7 nights. This hotel is supposed to be 5* but it isn't. Don't get me wrong, the hotel is situated in beautiful surroundings and the beach is lovely but I have stayed in better (5*) hotels. When we finally arrived at the hotel it was in the early hours of the morning and we were greated by a friendly receptionist and a cold drink. We waited for the buggy to take us to our room where they had left us some sandwiches but they felt warm so we didn't eat them. The room was on two levels. The bathroom and the wardrobes were on the ground floor and the beds were on the first floor. The room was very basic, we had twin beds, a long unit opposite the beds which had a tv resting on it and underneath there was a fully stocked fridge with beers, soft drinks and some local wine. The beds weren't very comfortable at all and there were no bedside tables. We paid for a bungalow with a sea view (room number 724) but there wasn't much of a sea view really. They aren't really bungalows they are just rooms on top of each other. We woke up at about 9.30am and went down to breakfast and this is when we encountered the dreaded steps, there's blummin loads of them and steep walkways as well. It looks like the hotel was built first and then they acquired the land across the road as the hotel is separate from the bungalows and you have to cross the road to get there or walk over the bridge. The views are stunning I have to say. Breakfast was really good, it is waitress service for the tea and coffee and then the breakfast is buffet style but what a wonderful selection. One word of advice if you are booking this hotel with a swim up pool or you like sitting by the pool, they are FREEZING!!, the sea was warmer. The food at this hotel is very good and the on site Italian restaurant food is superb. All the waiting staff were just lovely. I'm not a big cat lover but there are a few cats that roam the hotel outdoor restaurant and the hotel staff don't mind the cats wrapping themselves round your leg of an evening but I just didn't feel comfortable with them hanging around my table. If you are looking for entertainment you will be sadly disappointed and we found ourselves going into Agios Nikolaos most evenings. I think I've covered most aspects of this hotel and I hope I've given you an honest account.More
NOT the best hotel in Greece Heraklion - RCI hotel
2 rooms in village side. For 7 days. The hotel is fantastic but..... The beds in the rooms are poor, uncomfortable, thin blankets for this cold nights on October. The hotel not offering any solution. So... back pain and bad sleeping. Not fun at all !!! Cleaning the rooms - if you are an RCI deal be aware that your room will be cleaned just 3 times a week and you'll get clean towels just on those days. iMore
from the moment we arrived at the hotel at 1.30 am until the moment we checked out seven wonderful days later we were treated like royalty by the management and staff at this brilliant hotel. check in was swift and our room on the second floor was easily located. the room was adequate if a little basic but the bathroom was well stocked daily as was the minibar. the room was cleaned daily to a lovely standard. some reviews we read before our stay mentioned a lack of variety in the restaurant, utter rubbish, i think i could have stayed at this hotel for a month and not eaten the same dinner twice! the grounds are immaculately kept and as with previous reviews i will mention the number of steps in and around the hotel but, if you take your time wandering around, then the views from the chapel towards Ag Nik and across the bay are worth it. we stayed here during the first week of October and the weather was glorious if quite windy. the beach was very clean and only once in the whole week did we fail to find a lounger. the bars were also very clean , well stocked and very well staffed. as for whether the cocktails were part of the AI offer or not, there were more than enough AI choices to keep even Oliver Reed happy! finally a special mention to the staff, who without exception were friendly and efficient. Special mentions to Manos & Soula at the Lobby bar who replaced our drinks almost as fast as we could drink them. this holiday was perfect for us as a mature couple on honeymoon and i would recommend it to the same but i would not recommend it for families as the level of daytime entertainment was minimal and the evening entertainment basic at best, but as a quiet getaway for a week or even more, i couldn't think of a better place to visit. now for the bad bit..... Heraklion airport. The word dump does not do the place justice, an abhorrent place, easily the worst airport i have ever had the misfortune to go through. our TUI holiday rep recommended the VIP experience on departure for 40 euros each which we jumped at. no queues, no baggage issues, lovely quiet lounge, the best 80 euros we spent in the whole experience.More
One week for relax and enjoy the beauty of this place
Me and my sweetheart booked for a week here in the mid of sept. Let's have a look for the things this place offer. With our room we were pleased. Tidy, has some space and with great view for the sea. About the foods I was quite confused about only what to choose. Had a wide range of foods, just the sight was filling but the tastes are delicious. Think everyone find his own species, my gf also found it good, even if her taste is more diff than me. Especially loved the desserts, cause I'm sweet-toothed. Cannot complain about other the services neither. At the bar we drank good cocktails in nice and friendly company. During the daytime when we stayed in the hotel we couldn't get bored, the animation programs got us. We say huge thanks for the two lovely animators (Michaela and Fanny) who invited and looked for us to play always. Conviced us for the first time and then tried every games&activities (volleyball, darts, shuffle board,yoga/pilates, morn. stretching etc). In the evening the hotel had it own shows, games too such as musicquiz, bbq night and others. All in all we were satisfied. Thanks for everything from the hotel staff. Enjoyed every minute of our late vacation. One more thing to suggest as program. We have had a one-day wonderful trip to Santorini and visited the beautiful Elounda and Spinalonga island. Recommend all these programs to relax and to delight.More
The hotel is set overlooking Mirabello bay. From our sea view room on the top floor we had wonderful views over Aghios Nikolaos and the bay. In front of the hotel (on the other side of the hotel) there were 2 beaches and plenty of sun beds, on the beach and by the pool. The other side of the road were the bungalows and another pool as well as a spa. There was never any shortage of sun beds. Our room was well equipped with 2 single beds put together (although the mattresses were quite firm), a flat screen television (never turned on) and a kettle (never used). The bathroom had a bath with shower over and plenty of toiletries available. Towels were changed daily and bed linen changed several times in our 2 week stay. The food was lovely with plenty of choice at every meal. Drinks were served to the table and you could eat inside or out on the terrace. Once a week you could eat at the Italian or Greek restaurants. We only ate at the Italian once and found the service excellent. We enjoyed eating outside at lunchtime with spectacular views over the bay. Some evenings were cool but mostly we ate on the balcony outside the restaurant which was quite sheltered. The staff were very friendly and Georgia is worthy of particular credit for remembering our usual drinks order and room number! The evening entertainment was outside in the theatre area for the first few days but as the evenings were getting cooler this was brought into the lounge. We enjoyed the dancing girls one evening and there was a reasonable singer on another night but the entertainment was not spectacular. We sometimes don’t bother much with entertainment anyway and were quite happy with the quiz nights. There was a mix of age groups at the hotel, but when we were there I would say mainly older people, and we fit into that bracket, We found the hotel very spacious, inside and out, with lots of room to spread out and never feel crowded. The views all round are magnificent. I would have given 5 stars but was a little disappointed on the last day. There had been rain overnight and it brought dusty sand with it, presumably from Africa. At breakfast the staff were cleaning down around the hotel but didn’t get to clean the sun beds and area around the pool. We had to clean our own sun beds before we could use them and our feet were filthy when walking around barefoot. I imagine it was an unusual event but I thought more effort should have been made in a 5 star hotel. However, overall we loved our stay at the Mirabello and will certainly look at coming back.More
