We booked the hotel last minute and it was definitely a good choice. The hotel has a great location with great views, that is absolutely worth the money. A price you have to pay for that is lots and lots of steps, but if you don't mind as we don't, it is great. Food was good, a little repetitive in the buffet restaurant, but that can be expected. We have visited all three a la carte restaurants and it is a good experience too. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Beach is nice, sandy. Sun beds and umbrellas can be hard to get later in the day. They have a nice little gym that we used every day. You can get to a little village in couple minute walk. We also rented a car for a day that the hotel helped to provide and travelled around the island. The only negative I would mention was the humming noise that our AC was making in the room. We definitely recommend the hotel.More
Average hotel in an amazing location
The 1st impression when you see the hotel from the high road give you a good feeling: the location is so nice and the view from the hotel is amazing! When it comes to the hotel itself, even if it is good in general, there are many aspects which needs to be improved so you can really enjoy your holidays. overcrowded: you always have the feeling that the hotel is full of people and we are "ants". Not so relaxing. Food is the main restaurant is average: don't expect to "enjoy" the food, nothing special or really tasty. And it is really noisy: looks like a "cantina" full of adults instead of kids. Each time you eat outside you get annoyed by bees (would be good to have coffee to burn which is known to repel it). But... the 3 restaurants A la carte are really nice : French, Greek and Italian. Food and service are much better. Pity that you can book only 1 time each per stay (greek you can book for lunch as many times as you want). Room: definitely what spoiled my holidays.... it is not "fresh", doesn't make you feel comfortable and not really clean. First we got a room in a noisy area of the building. We asked to change in a quieter room. The reception said that they would leave us a message during the day to inform us about another room. Instead they called us in the room and of course as you usually don't spend your holidays inside your room, they could not reach us so they give the room to someone else. We were actually informed about the change by the cleaning lady and had to run to the reception for finally nothing. On the 2nd day, we got another room, quieter, but... with 2 single beds and kind of old fashion fur blankets which don't give feeling of being clean.... So a real bad feeling about the room, maybe just bad luck but enough to spoil your holidays... Sun chair: despite it is written everywhere in the hotel that you are not allowed "to book it" as there are enough for all customers, that is all the contrary: at 7:00am most of the su chairs around the pool are already booked by towels and even worst when people steel your place and your towel! Spa: really small for the spa area, just a pool and sauna (obviously) but the treatments ad good, at least the ones we had. You get 15mns massage offered to which you usually add another treatment as 15mns is really short and no time to enjoy. I took a scrub/aloe vera wrap and facial treatment : well done, I really enjoyed it and the woman was really nice. In conclusion: I would not really recommend this hotel and would not go againMore

Better than expected
I have just returned from a four night visit to this hotel with a friend. It was very last minute due to the collapse of Monarch our other trip to Lanzarote was cancelled and this was offered to us a few days before we were due to travel. I didn't have time to read the reviews before agreeing to book and when I read the most recent ones I was pretty concerned. The staff had been on strike and it sounded chaos. However luckily it has turned out to be much better than we expected. The hotel is set in a cliff and is very big and spread out with a lot of steep hills to climb and steps to the beach so as many reviewers are saying if your mobility is not good I would say don't stay here! There are 2 nice pools but they were far too cold to go in this time of year! The pools and beach are shaded until late morning because of the location so we took this opportunity to stroll along the beach and into the little village until the sun reached us. We found there are sufficient sun loungers..people do reserve them but it's no different to anywhere else I've been and we certainly didn't have to get up early to do so! We preferred the beach. There's a nice beach bar and the drinks are included in the AI package but not the food. You have to hike it back up the steps to the buffet for lunch! The food in general was ok plenty of choice..the alcohol I found not all that great. Would recommend a more relaxed breakfast in La Perla and we enjoyed an al acarte dinner there too as it doubles up as the Italian. We also had a very nice meal in the Greek restaurant too. Was however disappointed that we could not get booked in the French restaurant as we were only here 4 days and it was fully booked. We did try to book on arrival but because we didn't have a room number allocated as our room wasn't ready they would not take a booking!! Very frustrating as when we returned later that evening to try and book a table they were fully booked! We had a room in the main building which was a good location near the pools the buffet and the steps to beach. It was light and modern with great views from balcony. Bathroom and entrance area are very small. I did feel that the housekeeping wasn't up to scratch and we had to ask for towels and to get room made up once or twice. They provide robes and tea and coffee making facilities and a decent hairdryer. The evenings were pretty dull,, you had to queue for your watered down drinks which in a 4 star maybe soon to be 5 star hotel I thought was a bit disappointing as I have been to many AI hotels and there's usually waitress service for the bar in the evening, the barman also needed to smile a bit more ..well just once would of been good!! Entertainment was the usual..a little boring and same old!! I'd say this was a 4 star hotel that needed a few improvements but in a beautiful location and was nice for a relaxing late season break but I would not choose to come here for any longer than a week and definitely not in the busy summer months as not sure how they cope with a really busy full hotel. Great Holiday Venue
Spent 10 days at the Mayor La Grotta Verde grand resort recently. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a special holiday. Lovely hotel, great setting and very friendly staff. Made our stay such a delight. The beach is a stones throw away, but there is a steep climb to negotiate and no wheelchair access to the beach so this needs consideration. We had an all inclusive holiday and the food and drink was excellent. Plenty of choice to cater for all needs. The rooms are excellent with sea views and all the usual on suite facilities. Also, would highly recommend the spa facilities. The massages are fantastic and well worth the money (these aren't included in the all inclusive deal). So, if you are looking for a holiday that looks and is like the pictures you see in the glossy holiday magazines, this is the one for you.More
Don't listen to the whingers
Just returned from a four night stay and can honestly say this hotel exceeded all of my expectations. Set in a beautiful, idyllic location, with fantastic views over the sea and the mountainside. Weather was perfect for October, though with a slight chill in the evening. Received an upgrade upon arrival and was treated to a room with a private pool. Staff were very welcoming and attentive. Food was of a good quality, though some nights were fairly repetitive in the buffet (though this can easily be remedied by going to one of the on-site restaurants) Any complaints about the hotel are un-founded. Yes, there are a lot of wasps but I fail to see how this falls upon the hotel to remedy. Overall the holiday was perfectly what was required and well under budget. Would absolutely visit again and would like to thank all of the staff that made our stay so comfortable.More
