Hotel Milton

Just returned from a week at the Milton. A very traditional Italian building which many people stopped to photo day and night. A lovely display of flowers adorning the front. We booked this hotel as wanted a gym but were very disappointed as it is basically a room where equipment is stored, most of which didn't even work.The room was small and smelly and honestly not suitable for using. The bedroom was adequate although a lack of drawer storage and so was having to leave some clothes in our suitcases. The room was clean and fresh towels delivered when required, although one day the cleaners forgot to come in to ours! A little note from the owners in our room advised that we get 15% off our bill if we settle up in cash for the snacks purchased in the Terrace as a service charge of 1.50 euro per person is made. Whenever you leave the terrace bar you have to 'settle up' by signing a till receipt but you don't get a copy. Our advise is to keep a written tally of all your drinks and snacks as you don't get a receipt. Surely if you are a resident, then a service cover charge should not be imposed. The dinners were very tasty to start but I did feel it went downhill during the week. One evening there was shrimps in tomato sauce but the tails, legs and shells were left on making it a dish not to be eaten. One guest had an under cooked pork chop and the mash potato was almost liquid. At breakfast, you could have scrambled or boiled eggs, the scrambled eggs were swimming in liquid which again was being constantly stirred. The restaurant experience was unsettling, Andrea stood at the door welcoming guests in but remained there most of the time, watching. He was then taking notes of all the drinks ordered and adding this to the guests accounts held on his mobile phone. His wife stood opposite and watched and as soon as someone had taken food from a tray, she would go and stir it and trays were replenished by fresh food added on top. If you are going on a trip early morning, there will be no breakfast available. They will not open before 7.30am except on the last day which opens at 6.45am but only continental available. The pool area was OK though very small and only about 6 sunbeds in the sun. The beach is a few minutes walk away which was raked and cleaned every day. If you decide to go to Venice, go to the tobacconist and buy a ticket for 25.50 euro. This will pay for the bus, ferry and boat taxi whilst there. It also lets you visit Burano and Mirano island on the way. Our TUI rep advised us when we paid for a trip that we had to pay an extra 2 euro (a percentage of the cost) and also when using a card in the shops they will charge you a percentage of the cost - this is incorrect. Only TUI charges. Would we recommend it - if you are looking for a family run traditional Italian hotel, then yes. If you are looking for a large modern hotel, then no.

We visited this hotel in August as a family. The hotel is quirky but in a nice way. Breakfast and dinner were great with lots of choice. Staff always on hand to help and very friendly. Beach is a few minutes walk away with free sunbeds and umbrellas. All the guests were friendly and shared tips on the trip to Venice. This is a must! Only 20 minutes on bus and half hour on boat. Amazing day out! Snack bar out the front had a good selection. You can put all purchases on your room bill but try and keep a running total as when you receive the bill it isn’t itemised!! We trusted it was correct. We took a 14 and 16 year old and they loved it here! Would definitely return.

Had a short holiday in Lido di Jesolo and was amazed. What a brilliant place and great value for money. Ideal for families with a brilliant 12 mile long beach, busy enough for fun and quiet enough for relaxation. I love Italy, and now rate Jesolo up there with the best, and of course it is only a half hour from Venice. Ate almost every day at Hotel Milton, and Davide and his staff treated us like family, cannot recommend enough
