With pine forests and a frozen lake on the doorstep, it’s the views that everyone writes home about at the Lapland Hotel Hetta.

This place is in a picturesque part of town, snuggled up to the shores of Lake Ounasjärvi. It’s right in the heart of Lapland’s snow-dusted wilderness, so it’s a popular base for hikers and skiers.

Inside, things are just as Lappish – you’ll be met by a crackling fire in the lobby, and the restaurant puts traditional fare on the menu. An indoor pool and Finnish sauna are also part of the scene.

This hotel comes with a SnowClub, where families can get involved with entertainment and activities. You can join the SnowClub entertainment team for indoor and outdoor activities like snowman-building, tobogganing and Christmas crafts. There's plenty of entertainment, too, including live shows, festive parties and a Christmas-themed silent disco.

Your Itinerary

ARRIVE IN KITTILA

You’ll get a traditional cooked English breakfast on your flight to Lapland. You’ll pick up your thermal clothes as soon as you touch down in Kittila. Once you’re wrapped up you’ll take your transfer to your hotel. The rest of the day’s free for you to find your bearings, or gear up for a snowball fight.
TASTER DAY

It’s time for your tasters today – you can pick from a short husky-sleigh ride or a speedy ride on a snowmobile. Afterwards, you’ve got a toboggan run to tackle, or you can head inside the Kota tent – a teepee-style hut – for a traditional Lappish ceremony. Come afternoon, you’ve got the option of spending some free time in the snow or filling your time with an extra TUI experience – just make sure you book it before you go so you don’t risk missing out.
FESTIVE FINALE/FREE DAY

If you’re on a three-night trip, you’ll have some free time to finesse your toboggining skills, or spend some family time in the snow. You’ll hand your thermal clothing in today before finishing the day with your festive finale – it’s where you’ll meet with Santa and tuck into a festive feast. Or, if you’re staying for four nights, the day’s free so you can fill it how you like.
FLY HOME/FESTIVE FINALE

Whether you stayed for three or four nights, you’ll get a festive Christmas dinner on your flight back home. It’s time to head back to the airport today if you’re staying for three nights. If you’re on a four-night trip, you’ll have a day free for tobogganing in the snow before handing your thermal clothing in. Then, it’s time for your festive finale, which will feature a festive feast and a special visit from Santa.

SnowClub
This is one of our SnowClub properties, which means Captain T will be on hand for plenty of festive fun. He’ll entertain little ones with activities like snowdog-building, Christmas-themed storytelling and arts and crafts. Plus, he’ll be hosting special festive parties and sing-alongs. Family-friendly quizzes and games are part of the line-up, too.

Enjoy panoramic views over the lake from the big windows at the main restaurant. You'll find International as well as traditional Lappish cuisine is served here.
Indoor pool
When you've had enough exploring for the day, take a swim in the indoor pool.

Amazing Christmas trip :)

We stayed here with Tui in December and absolutely loved it. Yes it’s mostly a trip to take your young ones to see Santa but as an only adult couple, I adored it! We stayed in a bungalow over the road and it was very warm and equipped with everything you needed. Staff and Tui staff at the hotel were amazing. Food was really lovely too. All trips were well organised and great. The coldest we had it was -28 but with the correct layers and clothing provided I didn’t feel it. Finland is such a beautiful country in the snow, I loved seeing all the local houses decorated for Christmas. The locals are very friendly too. The huskies were are favourite I’d do it all again in a heartbeat :)

Hotel Hetta and Bungalow Review

We had the best time at Hotel Hetta, staying in 2 of their bungalows. The bungalows are basic, clean and have everything you need. They are spacious, have areas for drying suits and boots. Lots of kitchen amenities, with a large fridge freezer and plenty of cupboard space. We were able to enjoy the dinning table to play games and perfect for a quick pasta or noodles to give the kids energy for sledding. The bungalows backed onto a little hill for sledding which the kids and adults loved. Not to be confused with the hill that leads into the main Road though! The food at breakfast and evenings (half board) was great. Plenty of choice and some local twists with a few meals. Soup every night, salad bar, puddings and 3/4 hot main meals. In our party there was something for everyone and we all enjoyed. Kids struggled a bit and those who like their home comforts might find it difficult. It’s a small hotel so not loads of options but we always found something we’d eat. We also once had lunch in the hotel and enjoyed the pizzas and chicken and chips. Set in a lovely remote location. Felt Christmassy and because it’s so north just loads of snow. A proper white Christmas. We went on the frozen lake every night, walked to the fell centre, walked into the town. Everyone was very welcoming, would visit again.

I think I may just be in love with the landscape but this was one of two hotels that I really enjoyed during my visit to the region. Regarding style, the decor is certainly vintage but not worn out, giving it a real Wes Anderson vibe of pine and carpet. My room had a view over the lake and was nice and spacious. The only fault with my room (101) was a very loud buzzing strip light over the window but I didn’t use it so it didn’t spoil the stay. The sauna and pool are a great addition, with the sauna operating from 4pm (I seem to remember) and the pool chilly but invigorating. The restaurant buffet was decent at €35 with plenty of options. After the meal, it was great to take a wander back down into the nearby town to burn off the calories.

It was very fun and the bus took us to all the things we wanted to see, the pool was cold tho. But that did not matter because the sauna was great. We went to see a lot of things and there is here a skiing place close to the hotel. You can also go shop for groceries but it does take half an hour to get there but the walking is not bad because the nature is beautiful.

Did NOT disappoint

We travelled with Tui for 4 nights in December and stayed in a bungalow over the road from the hotel. The bungalow was very warm and clean and adequate as you do not spend very long in them. The only problem was the TV if you want to relax in your own space after an hectic day there are no English channels and only 5 local ones. The WiFi did not work in the bungalows which our grandchildren were upset about, they soon got used to the idea 😀 there was good access in the main building. The meals at the hotel were very good we were half board and could not fault them at all. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The Tui reps were amazing. We would definitely return to Hetta.
