The lively ClubHotel Riu Guarana caters for the whole family. A pair of outdoor pools hands out activity and quiet zones, and the entertainment team puts on a child-friendly line-up.
This hotel fits a lot into its clifftop spot – including two big outdoor pools and three restaurants. The beach is just a 10-minute walk away, too.
Palm-lined lawns surround a pool area that’s a honeypot for activities like water polo, aqua gym and al fresco sangria-making classes.

We choose the Riu Guarana club hotel in Olhos d'Agua, Algarve, Portugal, for our honeymoon destination, in July 2017, and it didn't disappoint. The hotel itself is in an ideal location, close to the beach, with a few souvenir shops and bars/restaurants, along the way to the sea front. There was a mix of family's with children, as well as couples, the duration of our stay was 7 days, all inclusive. The staff were friendly and hard working, our room on the forth floor, had a sea view and overlooked both of the swimming pools, the room had a balcony with table and chairs, the room was equipped with air-conditioning, television, fridge, plenty of storage for personal items, a comfortable double bed. A safe, inside the wardrobe for locking away your valuables. The en-suite bathroom was a nice size with an over the bath shower, basin, toilet and a bidet. The towels were changed daily and the maid kept our room clean and tidy. There were lifts to all floors as well as stairwells. The hotel had three restraunts, one of them was the main dining hall, the other two you had to book the day before to reserve a table, you had a choice of either an Asian night or a grill. The food was amazing with lots to choose from to suit everyone. There were bars situated outside by the pool area, one of them built into the pool, the staff were always on hand to serve you, again with a good selection of drinks, alcoholic or non alcoholic. We did not use the sports areas during our stay, but the choice was there, also there was an indoor pool, but we mostly used the outside swimming pools, with a card you could hire a towels to use for the pool side. No problem with the sunbeds, as there was plenty for everyone. The evening entertainment was enjoyable. Reception staff were always friendly and helpful, if you needed a taxi to get around they would call one for you at the desk. During our stay we did visit Albuferia and really enjoyed it, the taxi ride was reasonably priced. Overall we were glad we choose the Riu Guarana club hotel, as we really enjoyed our honeymoon there and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone thinking of visiting Portugal in the future.More
First off the staff are fantastic, so friendly, helpful, always smiling and can speak a multitude of languages which is impressive. The entertainment team although slightly cheesy for my taste, work incredibly hard day and night with a number of different activities to suit all ages I couldn’t believe how hard they work to ensure everybody Is having a good time from aqua aerobics, volleyball to dance classes to name a few and then they do the evening entertainment. The hotel is clean and rooms are lovely with comfortable beds and you can get free bottled water whenever you want which is handy. They also give you towels to use for the pool and take to the beach so you don’t have to take your own, however I do feel that the towels they provide in your room and for the pool do need replacing as they aren’t the most comfortable but they do the job. The downside was the food, Breakfast was probably the best food they served. We did try the grill and Asian restaurant the grill restaurant basically was the same food as the main restaurant and the Asian was ok. Luckily there are some fantastic restaurants down the road which we loved. We stayed on the first floor overlooking the pool which was a fantastic view but the doors aren’t soundproof so in the night if people are drinking on the patio of the bar it can be very loud and difficult to sleep however friend of ours were in another part of the complex overlooking the car park and they could hear nothing. Lastly the air conditioning during the night Is rubbish so if it’s hot be prepared I had read in other reviews that they turn it down at night. It was hot. The town the hotel is in is small but does have many lovely bars and restaurants and the beach Is fantastic you can hire 2 loungers with shade for around 25€ for the day. The hotel do provide many excursions and the front of staff are helpful and knowledgable. Overall I did enjoy our trip but taking everything in to consideration I feel the hotel Is overpriced for what you get. More
We stayed here at the beginning of September, the weather was glorious - not a cloud in the sky! This hotel is absolutely spotless and the staff are forever cleaning, the staff are unbelievably hard working and very polite and friendly. We are both vegetarians and we always found something tasty to eat. Ignore the bad reviews about the food there is so much choice and it is lovely. We thoroughly enjoyed the slush cocktails particularly nice and cooling when sunbathing 😎 You can help yourself to water, soft drinks, coffee, tea and beer at the pool bar. But if you fancy Something else you can go to the bar. The service there is extremely quick. You can bottles of water from reception whenever you want. We didn't have a pool view but to be honest we didn't care. The beds are so comfortable and one of the best we have ever had on holiday. There are plenty of sunbeds and you are given a card to get a pool towel which you can change as many times as you want. Overall we had an absolutely amazing time and we would without a doubt return - can't wait to return!!More

Brilliant staff make this hotel worth the visit
The staff are amazing so friendly and helpful. Our room was spotless every day. The grill/Asian restaurants aren't up to much, still buffet style so not the "special" feel you think you are going to get. The food in the main restaurant was always nice and hot and tasty but very repetitive, if I'd had kids with me they'd have lived on pizza and burgers. They serve coffee at your table for breakfast but you have to collect pots of tea, I just don't think it's very H&S to have to carry hot liquids through a busy restaurant. On the patio where you could also dine they allowed smoking which I found awful, especially when people seemed to sit there puffing away and weren't even eating themselves, or on a few occasions smoking cigars, The pool bar wasn't open and I never found the snack bar although to be honest you didn't need more food throughout the day as there was more than enough served at mealtimes. The airport transfers were an absolute disgrace, when we arrived there seemed to be queues everywhere which may have been due to the refurbishment of the airport. But then you have to queue to find out which bus you're on, to then find out you're bus has gone! Too many reps standing chatting in the sun while one person was trying to sort everyone out in the main airport. The trips out as always are far too expensive, a half day trip to Loule was on offer for 21 euros but by using the local ticket shop we got it for 8 and the driver/guide was brilliant which is more than can be said of the ones we had to do the Best of the West trip. Then coming back because of the horrendous queues at the airport we literally had 5 minutes to grab a bottle of water before we boarded and we were picked up at 8.45 for an 11.50 flight. Not impressed with Thomson's but impressed with Portugal and the staff at the hotel.More
