Great location right on the beach and very close to a number of decent bars and some quality shopping (Hugo Boss, Armani, Lacoste etc). Hotel and its staff are very nice, both breakfast and dinner are good not great and we managed to secure a table on the terrace every night. Would definitely stay in the FARO Hotel if returning to MaspalomasMore
Not Quite The Standard We Expected
The Receptionist was very helpful finding us an alternative room after 2 nights of our 10 day stay. Our second room was in a much better location without having to pay for an upgrade. The hotel does seem to cater for the more elderly, all the rooms seem to have single beds which are just pushed together for a "double" but still made up as singles. So not ideal for a couple used to snuggling up. The evening entertainment was certainly aimed at the older clientele with no variety. Surprising there is only one restaurant for evening meals. The salads were very good with plenty of choice. There was a small hot food area offering a very limited choice of fish & meat. The Chinese evening was appalling and even the paella wasn't cooked at all well - wrong rice etc. The desserts looked lovely but were different variations of whips/angel delight type things. The tables both morning & evening weren't cleared and re-made up. No tea or coffee available in the evening. For the standard of hotel the food really wasn't good enough. The location was very good, there was a supermarket 200m away and a good choice of restaurants after we got throughly fed up with the hotel evening meals. The rooms were a good size, the safe was the largest I've ever had in a hotel room. Which was convenient as we had to resort to putting our mugs in there to stop the maids removing them. (Do ask for a kettle). The mini bar was on the small side. There weren't enough drawers, so for a 10 day visit we struggled for space. The bathroom doors were certainly unique. The allocation of sun loungers was a good idea but over all around the pool was very crowded. There was only one pool. The sun/nudist terrace was much quieter and pleasant, just a shame there was no pool up there. The gym was disappointing. The equipment was new and of good quality but there was only one treadmill which didn't have any programs and one combined stepper/cross trainer. There were no mirrors and no water (possible due to the proximity to the pool and not wanting guests to avail themselves to "free water"). The weights were very large in size so cumbersome to use. The doors were always open so no air conditioning. The gym was the only place in the entire holiday we saw a cockroach - and a huge one at that. Security seemed to be a little lax. We returned late on several occasions and only the cat checked us out as we wandered around. Signing for drinks also seemed a bit lax around the pool and on the terrace, no checking of names etc. We had a very nice holiday but I'm not sure we'd stay at IFA Faro or another Lopesan hotel again. Warm welcome, and wonderful week.
I am very grateful to the lovely staff of the hotel who made my husband's birthday such a success. We had no idea that the staff knew it was his birthday, when someone arrived with a card, congratulations and a gift of wine for both of us. So very kind. He was very touched and it was a high point of our birthday/holiday. The hotel really is faultless, everyone very kind, everything sparkling clean and lovely. The ocean at your doorstep in a wonderful place; what could be better?More
Just returned from a holiday at Il Faro and had a fabulous holiday. Before we went we requested a high and quiet room. We got a room on the fifth floor (top) and a side view of the sea (room 1540). The room was quiet apart from Friday and Saturday night when we got some noise from nearby bars. When we booked the holiday we paid for a room with a sea view ( as recommended by my fellow trip advisor reviewers). The hotel has 188 bedrooms of which at least 150+ have seaviews . I just wonder if we paid for something we would have got anyway, do you want to take that chance? The room itself was very good. Two very large single beds pushed together, a large bathroom with bath and shower, a fairly large tv ( with a couple of English channels ), and a very large balcony with table, two chairs and two Sun beds. Air conditioning was standard and free and there was a safe deposit box (payable at 2.30 euros per day). The restaurant was excellent. Great variety in the starters, mains, desserts and fruit. Spoilt for choice. The pool was good. As previously stated by my fellow reviewers you get allocated your Sun beds on arrival. If you are not happy with your allocation, see the pool attendant each day and ask to change to any vacant beds. The hotel was pretty full on our visit but the pool was hardly used. With the hotel being right on the beach you can get from the pool onto the beach, have a swim in the sea, and go back to your Sun bed by the pool. The staff throughout our holiday were very helpful and friendly. Keep up the good work. Just one complaint. The hotel allows smoking by the pool. If you are on a Sun bed next to a smoker then this could spoil your day. Also part of the alfresco dining was for smokers. How you keep the smoke from going into the no smoking area I don't know. Answers on a post card. Most of the entertainment at night took place on the outside terrace. This again was a smoking area, so if you wanted to watch the entertainment you had to sit amongst the smokers. The hotel actually encouraged smoking by having a cigarette and cigar machine in the reception area. The quicker the hotel moves into the 21st. century and bans smoking altogether the better and the more likely it will be that I will return to this hotel.More

Ifa Faro - wonderful experience - wouldn't hesitate to return!
Stayed August 16 to 23 - emailed in advance outstanding questions which were immediately addressed and reassured. Greeted by friendly helpful reception staff. Beautiful exceptionally clean room overlooking pool, sea front spectacular and light house. Faultless hotel with amazing well presented food attentive staff enjoyed by myself and a marvellous mix of friendly people from Europe and beyond! Hotel located in a beautiful part of Gran Canaria to the left a short walk to Maspalomas Dunes. To the right amazing restaurants and upmarket shops/centre. Further on unspoilt walks along to the next bay. Great nightly evening entertainment (amazing Spanish v Irish dancing ! with live instrument playing/singing had the audience wowing !) water aerobics in the pool etc if you wanted to join in. Located 2/3 mins walk bus station with routes to playa del ingles, puerto rico, Mogan (must see mogan) airport and Las Palmas etc (airport cost 4 euros 10 cents!!!). Furthest trip we ventured being Mogan and from harbour caught ferry back to puerto rico and bus back to Maspalomas stunning!! We stayed half board, purchasing water etc from local mini supermarkets (and bus to Mercadona). I wouldn't hesitate to return or recommend Ifa Faro Hotel - thank you for a wonderful stay.More
