Enjoyable 9 nights
Just back from a 9 night half board stay. We had a lovely room on 4th floor overlooking pool and getting afternoon and evening sun. Room was clean and beds comfortable. Wardrobe space a little limited but adequate for two people. Shower very good and hair dryer worked well. As with some other guests the electricity cutting out was a bit of a pain, particularly for my wife while drying her hair...but I see from other reviews that this is being sorted. Staff were friendly and efficient and there was always plenty of choice at breakfast and dinner.......I have certainly put on some weight. We were out every night so cannot comment on evening entertainment. Hotel in a good location but on a steep enough hill which can be a bit of an issue for older people like myself. We have stayed in sister hotels, Villa Romana and Belvedere over past two years and I would say Villa Dorada compares favourably on all aspects, but because of hill we would probably favour the easier walking at other side of town. Overall we had a lovely pleasant vacation, met some lovely people and would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel More
I stayed here with my family for 10 days, I wish I could rate it a 5 out of 5 but the hotel had very little evening entertainment and the food wasn’t the best. Genis was the friendliest member of staff there, he was in charge of entertainment and even apologised that the hotel wasn’t providing much for the evening although he did keep us entertained throughout the day with games such as Sjoelen, table tennis tournament, darts and he even allowed my dad and uncle to teach him about killer pool which he regularly played with us. The food was disappointing to me, there’d be things there which looked nice but the translations for them were very vague, for example a dish which was pork in some kind of onion gravy with some other bits was just labelled as pork, I can not eat certain foods so had to avoid everything that I couldn’t be certain off so I had regularly had ham sandwiches for my tea which I made myself and my dad had cheese toasties which he would make him self. There is a snack bar which will serve burgers, pizza, hotdog and chips but you get sick after a while. Another issue I had was they stopped serving at 12 at night, which is fine but I didn’t expect that as soon as 12 hits that they’d pack everything up and turn the lights of and come out and say it’s close and expect you to return to your room, when sometimes you just want to sit outside and have a chat with fellow holiday makers. Overall I enjoyed my stay as did my family, mainly because of Genis being so friendly and entertaining. The food was a let down but I was willing to eat out from time to time so I made do, and the service was fast enough so couldn’t fault it when trying to get drinks, but was not happy when getting sent up to my room like a child by members of staff.More

Could be a really good hotel. Good location for salou and visiting Barcelona on excursions. The room was ok however the drains in the bathroom had a real bad smell and the air con was old a pretty much useless glad we stopped in October so it wasn’t to hot at night. The bed was clean and very comfortable. The bar staff were friendly. Most of the drinks were good. The evening entertainment wasn’t great. For me the huge problem with this hotel is the awful food, not much choice, poor quality and most of the time cold. (The toasties and chips from the snack bar kept us going and was always hot) All in all expected for a cheap get away. More
Small improvements could make this hotel great
Very mixed feelings about this hotel. Firstly the bad points.. we had one of the rooms on the forth floor with the dodgy electric... which continued throughout our 11 night stay, lift on the right hand side very temperamental, worked when it wanted.. which resulted in you being trapped inside for a few minutes before door decides to open, Bottle bins getting emptied between midnight and 3am when you have 3 under 9 year olds not ideal, wardrobe space for a family of five not good... didn't enjoy living out my suitcase for the whole stay and food was very repetitive... children's choice was bad! Good points would be staff very friendly... always made my children laugh and smile, entertainment when it was on was brilliant, the food at snack bar was very nice and quick service always, rooms where always lovely and clean and had fresh towels everyday and very good location with a small hill! But the best thing about this hotel would have to be GENIS!! He is a massive part of this hotel and makes sure everyone (adults and children) are having a good time! My boys loved seeing him, and laughed so much when he was around! This hotel is definitely worth a visit and with a few little improvements we would definitely consider going back as salou is such a lovely place! even though we had problems, we still had an amazing holiday regardless xMore
Poor facilities, no lounge, plastic glasses asked for real glasses during evening but refused. Spoke to Manager told lies regarding request we asked for. Food adequate, but poor, if you consider having carrots, sprouts, and chips for breakfast Dirty and chipped plates. Electric cutting off in room when having showers and watching TV. Decline request to move other Hotel, initially accepted but then declined. The local Spanish Catalanders stopping in the Hotel where arrogant, pushed in while waiting for food and drinks, and served first by the staff. Given glasses while we had plastic ones. Only one bar and one person serving drinks, and handing out food. Although cannot blame the staff. They did well in difficult circumstances. Long queue around ten minute wait every time you wanted a drink. Very poor service. Worst Hotel I ever stayed in. There was other several problems, too numerous to mention. Do not stop HERE Better off in a Hostel and cheaper. More
