View All DealsHolidays to Calpe combine white-gold beaches with authentic Spanish culture and rich, local history. And with direct flights leaving from Dublin and Cork, a seaside Spanish retreat is never far away.
Calpe’s beaches are among Costa Blanca’s best, with each boasting their own unique character. Les Bassetes, for example, is a mellow fishing destination, while the beach at Playa Arenal-Bol is full of activities and watersports for more adventurous visitors. The marina is likely the most pristine stretch, having been awarded the Blue Flag. But all the beaches make ideal sunbathing destinations thanks to their soft sands and welcoming blue waters.
Previously reliant on fishing and salt production, Calpe provides a curious mix of modern attractions and rich, local history. Nestled in amongst the old, narrow streets you can find an 18th-century fortress, an archaic town square built within the ancient city walls, and a gothic church. It's a great destination for historically-minded travellers.
Calpe also boasts several great natural attractions, making for superb days out in the Spanish countryside. The Penon d’Ifach is Calpe’s most imposing feature, and is so beloved by locals that it has been made into a national park. The tricky climb is best taken in the early morning, but the views from atop the mountain are truly spectacular. On a clear day, you can see all the way to Ibiza. Similarly, Calpe’s second national park sits just inland from the coast. Once a collection of vast salt flats, Les Salines is now a bustling saltwater lagoon packed with flamingos. Tourists from all over the world come here to see this unique ecosystem from one of the wooden walkways extending over the water.
