    ABOUT THE HOTEL

    • Official Rating
    • Free Wi-Fi

The name says it all at the Snowy Wilderness Lodge. The property is surrounded by a winter wonderland of forest and fields.

The Snowy Wilderness Lodge is tucked away in the heart of the Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park, surrounded by mile after mile of pine forests and hills.

Log fires set the scene, so the hotel is warm and cosy inside. The rooms, meanwhile, are basic with modern décor and come with great views over the snowy countryside.

This hotel comes with a SnowClub, where families can get involved with entertainment and activities. You can join the SnowClub entertainment team for indoor and outdoor activities like snowman-building, tobogganing and Christmas crafts. There's plenty of entertainment, too, including live shows, festive parties and a Christmas-themed silent disco.

You'll find the details of your itinerary below - just remember that all itineraries are subject to change. You can find your final itinerary on the TUI Santa Trips app two days before you're due to go - just search for TUI Santa Trips in the App Store or Google Play to download it. If you'd like to book additional experiences, we'd recommend booking these with us - it's just so we can make sure they fit around the included activities such as your meeting with Santa, taster sessions and festive finale.

    • ARRIVE IN KITTILA

You’ll get a traditional cooked English breakfast on your flight to Lapland. Once you’ve touched down in Kittila, Santa’s elves will be hand to take you to your hotel in Pallas. There’s a stop en route to pick up your thermal clothing, then once you’ve reached your hotel there’s some free time to get a feel for your surroundings. You can grab a toboggan and make a bee-line for the snow, or take a walk through the snow-topped countryside.

    • TASTER SESSIONS

It’s all about Lappish culture today, with a short husky ride through the snow. Or, you can opt for a snowmobiling session instead. Then you’ll get to see a traditional Arctic Circle crossing ceremony, followed by some free time in the afternoon – you can book an extra TUI experience if you’d like, just make sure you book it before you go so you don’t risk missing out.

    • FESTIVE FINALE/FREE TIME

It’s all about festive fun today for those staying for three nights, as you’ll try your hand at decorating cookies and making Christmas ornaments. Or you can zoom through the snow on a toboggan ride – just remember you’ll need to hand your thermal clothing back in today. Later, you’ll tuck into a Christmas dinner with all the trimmings and have the chance to meet Santa at your festive finale. Or, if you’re on a four-night stay, you’ll have the entire day at leisure, which means there’s plenty of time to pencil in any extra experiences – head to tui.co.uk/things-to-do and search for Pallas to see your options.

    • FLY HOME/FESTIVE FINALE

Whether you stayed for three or four nights, you’ll get a festive Christmas dinner on your flight back home. For those staying for three nights, it’s time to head back to the airport today, ready for your flight home. Or, if you’re staying for four nights, it’s your turn for festive fun – you’ll be crafting Christmas ornaments, decorating cookies and later heading out for a toboggan ride. It’s time to hand your thermal clothing back in today and get ready for your festive finale, where you’ll be meeting up with Santa.

Travelled with TUI and will never use TUI again. Scenery is stunning to be fair but trip was awful. We were told before we left (by TUI) that we would could do the taster sessions before deciding if which excursion we should go for. We were told (and still have the email to prove) that the taster would include Reindeer. The tasters however did not include the Reindeer. When we returned to the hotel, we tried to book a Reindeer excursion, but were told this was fully booked. We wanted to get out of the hotel for a bit, but with no excursions left, TUI told us they were putting on a trip to the nearest town (Levi) for the next morning. We agreed to go it (Naively thinking it would be free), only to then be told the transfer in and out would be 320 euro. We reluctantly paid. The next morning, I woke with a flu so I asked if we could cancel the trip as I wouldnt have the energy. The TUI rep told us that it should be OK to cancel, because they have a waiting list of people that are looking to take our place. I asked if I would get the refund, because if we werent getting that, then my wife and kids would go (to make use of the money that was spent), she told me it shouldnt be a problem because they had people top take our place. Around dinner time I happened to pass the Reps desk and she called me over in front of two of the elves and another rep to tell me that they couldnt do the refund and no matter want I said, she just said sorry. I cannot understand how, if they found another family to go in our place and actually filled the bus, that we wouldn't be allowed our refund. We tried our best to hide our frustrations from the kids but the older bar man almost sent us over the edge. When we were getting drinks for dinner, our son struggled to make up is his mind and the older bar man said "Well, which one is it? make up your mind". Our son is 8 and even he was taken back by it. This same barman had visible frustration in his demeanour our entire stay. I dont think he had the patience for kids. The food was hit or miss. You would always find something you would eat, but very often you were left standing at the buffet chaffing dishes because they were empty. On one particualr occasion, the wait was too long so my wife had a plate of chips for dinner and i had to go and ask for the mains dish to be refilled - restaurant was supposed to be open for another hour. The house beer (part of the all inclusive) was 2.3% but was nice enough. The wine was awful - it was from a carton. Good things about this were the elves + santa and the snow. Although Santa was great, we didnt get to see him until around 10pm the night before we left. On the morning of departure, we were leaving for Dublin. Flight was at 15:35 but everyone in the hotel had to be checked out by 9AM with all bags left sitting in the lobby. We had to take the bus then at 10:15AM and at airport at 11:15, so sitting at the airport for 4 hours. To make matters worse, part of this trip was gift to our son as it was his birthday when we were out there (the day we met santa). We were told that if you let TUI know, that they would do something special for him. We told the TUI rep before we left and she said she emailed the hotel to let them know. I told the TUI rep in the hotel (the one who wouldnt give us the refund) and should noted it down and said she would get something sorted. So our last day came and after meeting Mrs Claus, I told her about the birthday (because TUI didnt pass it on), so she came back to our table to say happy Birthday (she was great though). When it came to meeting Santa, i told a TUI rep again (about an hour before we went up), but no surprise, it wasnt mentioned until Santa read his letter and noticed that my son had it wrote at the bottom that it was his birthday. We saved all year for this trip and whilst we did hid our frustrations from the kids, this was an absolute let down. I will never ever book with TUI again.

Drive to hotel and restaurant was beautiful. The service and food were Finnish and incredible. A wonderful surprise. Gift shop also a pleasant surprise. A real shout out to our waitress. She was friendly, knowledgable and a pleasant to talk with. Pleasant surprise to see reindeers on drive down.
Wilderness hotel with excellent restaurant and very good hiking trails

Lapland Hotel Pallas is a traditional Lappish hotel for hiking, mountain biking, skiing and cross-country skiing. This log hotel was built in 1948 and it is situated between several fells in the end of the road in Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park. It is easy to come here also by public transport. I took a night train from Helsinki to Kolari and then a train connection bus from Kolari railway station to Lapland Hotel Pallas. Nature, views and clearly marked hiking trails (both short and long) are the best part of this hotel. Reindeer are wandering around the hotel. Hiking trails (and cross-country skiing tracks in winter) start from the corner of the hotel. I especially loved hiking to Palkaskero, Pallaskero, Taivaskero and Laukukero. I will write more specific hiking recommendations in a separate review of Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park. The reception and the front door are closed after 11 p.m. So if you want to have a night hike under the midnight sun (as I did) you have to ring a doorbell or call and a night shift worker will open the door for you. The breakfast buffet was more than excellent. It included all normal items but also many local specialties, e.g. spruce shoot fruitie, lingonberry vanilla smoothie, reindeer live pate, beetroot hummus, dried cranberries, bilberry-blackberry powder, spruce tip powder and apple-cloudberry jam. There was a waffle station there, too, and you could make your own waffles there. Actually the restaurant of the hotel is one of the best restaurants in Lapland for dining. I will write a separate restaurant review of it. The weak part of this hotel is condition of the rooms. They are quite cozy but past and threadbare. Cleaning seems to be good but you see dents and other traces of use everywhere. Besides, my bathroom was very small and there wasn't any separate bidet shower there. I could hear water flowing in pipelines but otherwise my sleep quality was very good. A ventilation window with an insect nest was good. This hotel is very down-to-earth. You can stay here without any big problems and you can enjoy your stay very much but don't expect any luxury room. You may be disappointed if you have visited Lapland Hotels in big cities (Helsinki, Oulu, Kuopio, Tampere) earlier. They are extremely stylish and rooms are in good condition there. However, Lapland Hotel Pallas may also be a paradise if you don't expect too much.
The best trip you will EVER have...honestly.

We went as part of a Christmas TUI trip while the hotel is 'Snowy Wilderness Lodge' and I have no negatives at all about this hotel. This is our 2nd trip here (not our last!) this hotel is a home from home, warm, cosey, family feel. Staff that work at the hotel are friendly and welcoming. Rooms are basic but comfy and everything you need. If you're second guessing, just book, I've already proved for next year!!!
    Magical location

The Hotel snowy wilderness is set in a magical location, but that's as good as it gets. The hotel is basic which we were expecting, but the main hotel was so cold. We has adjoining rooms, with 1 room had luke warm water, the other stank of raw sewage. We were told to run a tap. The taster session were very short, and blood around the Huskies. The Snowmobile was a sledge pull only. We booked Snowmobile where my grandson got hyperthermia. No extra blankets no thermal wraps. We were sledge back to starting point. The boots don't all have tie tops, which let's the snow in. Please think if taking small children it was -30. There was no hand sainitiser children touching the food, which lead to the sickness bug. So we lost a day and half of a 3 day holiday. The food is awful, although buffet there is only 1 children's choice. We ate very little. The flight out we were told our 11 year granddaughter had to wait and if there was enough books she would get 1. They know how many childrens seats have been booked. No water in one of the planes toilet, and I started to take ill on the plane. Spent 5 days in bed. What was an expensive once in a lifetime time holiday just wants to make me cry. We had waited over a year for this trip. Never again.
