Weather follows a similar pattern to the UK in Berlin – the summer months are by far the warmest, with temperatures reaching 23°C in July and August. The theme’s the same in winter, when the temperature drops to an average of -1°C in January. Summer showers aren’t unusual – you’re most likely to see them in June and August.

You should take out comprehensive travel and medical insurance to cover you while you’re away. It’s also a good idea to get a European Health Insurance Card – or EHIC – before leaving Ireland. Though it’s not a substitute for travel insurance, it entitles you to emergency medical treatment on the same terms as German nationals. It won't, however, cover you for medical repatriation, ongoing medical treatment or non-urgent treatment.
