Africa holidays

  • Spread out on a top-class sandy swathe in Mauritius
  • Spot the hillside writing near Agadir’s kasbah
  • Wander around one of Marrakech’s lively souks
Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania

Holidays to Africa offer you the chance to stroll around colourful markets and breathe in the aromas of the fresh spices. Or relax on untouched beaches and get up close to nature.

A walk on the wild side

No matter where in Africa you visit, you’ll notice that you’re surrounded by wildlife. In Morocco, it’s not unusual to spot a barbary macaque or two on your travels. And if you’re very lucky, you may even see the northern bald ibis bird which is endemic to Africa’s Atlantic coast. The island of Mauritius boasts even more endemic species, including the pink pigeon, skink lizards, and the betangue fish.

Beach life

You don’t need to travel all the way to the United States to relax on a Florida-style beach. Agadir has earned the nickname ‘The Miami of Morocco’ thanks to its soft sands and laidback beach vibe. Add in the 330 kilometres of powdery beaches on the Mauritius coast, and it’s easy to see why Africa is a top destination for chilled-out beach getaways underneath the warm sun.

Colourful markets

For keen shoppers, Africa’s souks are a major attraction. These traditional Arabic marketplaces typically sell everything from aromatic spices and hand-woven carpets, to Islamic kaftans and ornate pottery. One of the most popular visitor-friendly souks can be found in Marrakech. The Jemaa el-Fna Square souk is the biggest in the city, and there are often entertainers here such as storytellers and magicians.
