Welcome to Ruhpolding
Nestled in the Bayern Alps, just over the border from Austria, is the pretty village of Ruhpolding. This is the land of the Swan King, with lederhosen-clad locals and the sound of cowbells floating across the meadows. So you can spend your days swooshing up the mountain on a cable car, learning about the local culture in the lumberjack museum or taking a walk past scenic churches and around the pretty lakes of Königsee and Chiemsee.

If you’re interested in the local culture, you can take a trip to Munich, the Bavarian capital, which is just over an hour away. And a trip to Berchtesgaden is a must, for the glorious mountain views and fascinating Eagle’s Nest.

WHEN TO GO
Germany has very distinctly defined seasons, with warm summers and cold winters. Springtime sees the landscape burst into bloom and splashed with colourful wild flowers. The temperature is mild but with a higher percentage of frequent showers. July is the most popular time to visit, with the average day sitting in the region of 25-30°C, but that dramatically drops in the evenings to a sometimes chilly 8°C. Germany is known for having changeable daily weather conditions, so come equipped with sunglasses as well as a raincoat when visiting.
