What does Green & Fair mean?
Green & Fair hotels share our commitment to supporting local communities in our destinations and looking after the environment. They’re awarded this label when their planet-friendly practices have been officially recognised by an independent certification body for meeting the established global standards for sustainable tourism.
Hotels that are listed as Green & Fair meet the strict Criteria of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), which covers sustainable management, environmental protection, supporting local communities and promoting cultural heritage. By staying in a Green & Fair hotel, you can kick back knowing that your holiday choice is going the extra mile to help our planet and worldwide communities.

FAQs
What is a Green & Fair holiday?
A Green & Fair holiday is a TUI getaway that includes a stay in a hotel that has been awarded our Green & Fair label. These hotels have been recognised for their sustainable practices by an independent organisation, based on a Criteria set by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC). Green & Fair hotels help us continue to support local communities in our destinations, look after the environment and create more sustainable holiday moments.
How will I know if my holiday or hotel is more sustainable?
You’ll know your hotel is more sustainable if it has been awarded our Green & Fair label. This badge of honour is given to our hotels that have been officially recognised by an independent certification body for meeting the established global standards for sustainable tourism. All Green & Fair hotels are clearly labelled on our website and in our brochures – just keep an eye out for the green leaf label. Alternatively, you can find the full list here.
How can I make my travel more sustainable?
You can make your travel more sustainable by booking flights with holiday providers that use fuel-efficient planes. Today, our fleet of aircraft is one of the world’s best when it comes to managing carbon emissions, and we want it to be even better tomorrow. At the moment, two of the aircraft we use – the Boeing 737 MAX and the 787 Dreamliner – both have engines that are more efficient than the planes they replaced. The 737 MAX, for example, beats out its predecessor by 16%. Plus, we’re working hard to accelerate the production of sustainable aviation fuels.
If you’re looking for smaller sustainable steps you can easily take, try travelling with a refillable water bottle instead of buying single-use plastic ones at the airport or while you’re abroad. Bring a bag-for-life with you, too, if you plan on buying groceries during your holiday to cut down on using plastic alternatives. You can also help reduce water waste by not having your towels washed every day. And, if you plan on swimming in the sea, lagoons, and lakes, use chemical-free suncream – it’s less harmful to aquatic life.
Don’t forget to give the local economy a helping hand during your holiday, too. Buying locally made souvenirs from gift shops or markets can go a long way, just make sure you don’t pick up anything that comes from, or is made using, endangered species. Picking dining options that use locally grown ingredients can make your holiday more sustainable, as well. And, if your hotel has a buffet, be mindful about how much food you take – cutting down on food waste is a big win for sustainability.
For activities and tours, meanwhile, try and find some that benefit local communities and ecosystems. Our TUI Collection Experiences are a great place to get started – every activity with this label has been chosen and approved by us for its positive impact.
