Toronto, Canada

Holidays to Canada do the double – you can mix things up between modern cities and nature-filled parks.

East coast holidays

Canada’s the second largest country in the world, so it’s got a setting to suit any type of holiday. Its east coast takes most of the glory when it comes to postcard fronts, with big names like Toronto, Ottawa – the capital – and Montreal all having a home along this stretch. The latter comes with a French feel, with bistro-style restaurants and buildings that look like they’ve been plucked out of Paris. Over in the capital, museum fans can take their pick from the Canadian Museum of History and the National Gallery of Canada.

Day trips to Niagara Falls

The east coast of Canada’s got another famous face to add to its line-up, too. Niagara Falls is around an hour-and-a-half drive from Toronto, and a five-hour journey from the capital. It marks the border between Canada and the USA, with a trio of thundering waterfalls cascading down a drop of more than 50 metres. If you want to up the ante, you can watch the water fall from above in a helicopter, or go for a white-knuckle ride across the rapids of the Niagara River.

Culture-packed Toronto

Canada’s famous for its multicultural scene, but nowhere quite tells the tale as well as Toronto. Step from one neighbourhood to the next and you’ll feel as if you entered a totally different city. Little Italy and neighbouring Little Portugal make you feel like you’ve made a move to the Med. Meanwhile, Kensington Market will have you thinking you’ve landed in London, with vintage boutiques and trendy bars paired with Victorian houses and tree-lined streets.
