You can get a good feel for the city by taking a stroll along Khaosan Road with its bustling markets. Or for a quieter experience, head to Lumphini Park. Centrally located in the city, it's a peaceful haven in the heart of the action.

Natural Thailand

Thailand's big cities are just one side of the story. Head south down the Malay Peninsula and you'll find long stretches of sand overlooking the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea. There are so many beaches in Southern Thailand that you'll have a lot of options available to you, from the famous party shores of Patong to the undeveloped Mai Khao in the Sirinat National Park.

Buddhist temples, shrines and monasteries top the list of must-dos, from the gilded complexes of Bangkok to the Big Buddha in Phuket. If food is your religion, there’s even more to sink your teeth into. Night markets here are a way of life, where street food reigns supreme – you’ll find one in almost every town and city. Head there in the evenings for your fill of wok-fried noodles, grilled skewers and mango sticky rice.
