Stretching from the breezy Atlantic Ocean in the west to the borders of Asia in the east, Europe packs a lot into its 10,000,000 square kilometres. On holidays to Europe, you can hike the rugged landscapes of volcanic islands, sunbathe on Mediterranean beaches, and stroll through some of the oldest cities in the world.

Beach resorts

Europe’s Mediterranean coast travels all the way from southern Spain to Cyprus and Turkey, with lots of coastal resorts to choose from. Both mainland Spain and the Balearics boast warm weather throughout much of the year, and the Greek Islands were made for sunbathing. But it’s not all about the Med. Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast is home to some of Europe’s most well-known resorts, including Sunny Beach and Golden Sands.

Historic cities

Roman ruins, medieval castles, and UNESCO-worthy old towns await you in Europe. Both Greece and Italy played a big role in the birth of western civilisation, creating settlements across the continent. Many of these historic influences can still be seen today. For medieval architecture, be sure to check out Dubrovnik in Croatia, Nuremberg in Germany, and the Greek island of Rhodes, which all boast traditional old towns.

Outdoor activities

There’s more to Europe than just its cities and beaches. Both Austria and Switzerland offer photo-worthy alpine scenery, and there are plenty of hiking opportunities in Bulgaria’s Balkans. Germany’s Black Forest boasts walking trails through the dense spruce and fir, while Lapland’s arctic landscape lends itself to all sorts of winter sports like snowmobiling and skiing.
