Salou holidays might surprise you. There’s a stylish, refined side beyond the party persona, plus a handful of Europe’s top-rated rollercoasters.
Salou’s one of the most popular beach resort’s on Spain’s sun-splashed Costa Dorada. It’s got a reputation as a party town, thanks to its late-night line-up of bars and clubs. The golden sandy beaches are separated by a smart marina, and the seafront’s perfect for tanners and watersports fans alike. Behind the shoreline, there’s a palm-spotted promenade where restaurants and hotels reside.
Don’t assume that Salou’s just for all-night club-goers, though. Peek beyond the curtain, and you’ll see a very different picture. Beauty spots like the picturesque Penya Tallada cove, in Cap de Salou, are set away from the heart of the town. And if you look in the right places when you’re in the centre, you’ll see illuminated fountains that dance to music, family-friendly tavernas and a centuries-old stone tower.
You’ll find one of the continent’s most-fancied theme parks on the edge of town – PortAventura World. This huge entertainment site’s got rollercoasters, a Ferrari-themed land and a waterpark in its back catalogue, and pulls in millions of visitors every year. Among the rides is a number that’s loftier than London’s Big Ben, and hurtles along at more than 100 miles per hour.
