Busy Hotel Offering Great Value For Money.
If there is a better value for money hotel than this one your on a winner. We stayed in a room on the sixth floor in good decorative order with walk in shower, no bath, which was kept to a very high standard of cleanliness. Toni and Javier always find you a table in the restaurant no matter how busy and it was, local Fiesta and sporting tournament during our visit. The meals were varied with good choice and the staff excellent as they were in all sections of the hotel. The hotel caters for children in a big way and is lively, very lively until late into the evening. The adult entertainment is good and on the whole enjoyed it very much. Situated in a quieter part of the town I found this hotel to be well worth a visit unless you like things really peaceful as I previously quoted it's LIVELY.More

Not a 4 Star hotel
I booked this hotel following glowing reviews on Trip Advisor. There is a very impressive entrance which fills you with good expectations. Arriving in the bedroom was not pleasant as on going to use the loo it was smeared with another person's you know what. I felt sick. Previous dust and fruit pips on the floor remained for the week. The wash basin was only cleaned once during our stay and the bathroom floor needed a good scouring. The food looked fabulous on first arrival in the restaurant, plenty of salad items, fruit of every description and many scrumptious desserts. However, the actual main meal selection on most nights was very limited. Okay you wouldn't starve but really some of the choices were poor. The two men who greet you at the restaurant doors were only pleasant to those who had obviously been going to the hotel for years. I also do not like being told where to sit. I am quite grown up and can find an empty table myself. There were only two genuine smiley people in the whole hotel staff, being the chap who makes the omlettes at breakfast and Jacqueline who was always helpful. When of a certain age the walk to the shops and beach is not a"short stroll" away and neither are the bus routes if you like trips out to Cambrils, La Pineda etc. It is quite a hike in the heat. The pavements are also very broken in this quite rundown area of Salou. The entertainment was quite rubbish, we preferred to go on another "hike" down to the "strip". We have been to Salou quite a few times but would never stay at Golden Port again.More
My husband and I have just returned from this lovely hotel. We stayed at this hotel on a half board basis. Everything was just right. Food cooked to a high standard everyday. Plenty of choice, restaurant staff friendly. Rooms spotlessly cleans as was rest of hotel. Bar staff were friendly and quick. Would definitely recommend this hotel.More
Ants in room, poor complaint handling, but good value for money
We arrived on Saturday at approx 1130am. The check-in experience wasn't too bad and we were told to wait 1/2 hour until room was ready which was fine. We were given room 123 which was on the 1st floor. The room was pretty basic but initially appeared clean. When I pulled the bedsheets down I was surprised to see an ant crawling across my pillow! It was then that I started to notice ants in all areas of the room. In the bathroom, on the dressing table, on the floor and crawling up the walls. It also became clear that the cleaning wasn't very thorough as there were large amounts of "dust balls" and previous guest hairs. I went downstairs to reception to let them know about the ants and let them know that I'd like to move to a different room as I wasn't very happy with ants crawling on my pillow. The staff member who initially took my complaint advised he would send someone up with ant spray. I said that I didn't want ant spray and that I wanted to change room. No apology or empathy was shown. He said to come back after dinner and they would see what they could do. We popped back to our room and two housekeepers then turned up holding the ant spray! I advised them that I was awaiting to change room and sent them away. We returned after dinner and was seen to by Jacqueline (who I'm aware is the Guest Relations Manager and responds to TripAdvisor reviews so of course I expected a good level of service). When we advised Jacqueline about the ants, she walked over to another lady on reception and came back to say "it's not possible to change room tonight". Again, no empathy or apology at all, which I was shocked about. We said we understood but wanted reassurance that we could at least change in the morning. She said that she couldn't guarantee it. We said surely she knows if guests are checking out tomorrow and she responded by saying "yes, but we have new guests checking in". She went back to the other lady (who she later advised was the head of reception). She returned again to say she couldn't guarantee it but would try her best. Again we challenged this saying that surely we could have the room of someone who was checking out. This time she shrugged, pointed to the head receptionist and said "that's what she said!" We were then advised to come back at 11am in the morning. She said that in the meantime they could change our bedding, which I said we would be grateful for. Nonetheless, I was absolutely shocked that a 'Guest Relations Manager' couldn't get the basics of customer service right. A simple "I'm so sorry to hear about that. It's not what we would expect and I completely understand why you would be upset" is all that was needed! The next morning we went down and the receptionist we dealt with was much better (albeit no apology still). We were moved to room 513 on the 5th floor. As soon as we walked in the difference was amazing. The room felt noticeably cleaner. We went downstairs to let them know the new room was better. Jacqueline walked past us, however didn't once ask if everything was okay now etc. Again, a schoolboy error, especially for someone in her role. For the rest of the holiday, Jacqueline continued to avoid us and had ample opportunities to "check back" and make sure everything was okay. Regardless of if she saw us or not a simple note to apologise would have been a nice gesture. Unfortunately, with the exception of some of the nice waitresses in the restaurant, most of the staff were miserable and at some points just plain rude! I went through numerous transactions in the bar, where they were completely silent throughout (no thank you etc) even when I made an effort with them. (I can't be sure but I think this is symptomatic of being an All-inclusive guest, as other reviewers have mentioned this too). This was the same on reception, where they would either ignore you or start talking in Spanish to colleagues in front of you whilst you were in the middle of talking with them. "Kiss" who does the omelettes in the restaurant was great. He was very personable, polite and friendly. Likewise with the waitress, Deli. She was fantastic and even remembered what drinks we ordered which is such a nice touch. The restaurant hosts and also all of the housekeepers we encountered were fantastic. It's a shame that the senior staff don't take a lead from them. The food in the restaurant was quite varied and I always found something to eat. Most nights, we were served drinks quickly in the restaurant, however on one occasion, we were nearly finished our meals before they took our drinks order. One thing I would suggest is that when they clear your drinks and plates, they ask if you would like anymore drinks. One other negative was that the housekeepers appear to ignore the "do not disturb" signs. Ours was clearly hanging on the door, yet they still knocked. They did the same with next doors room too. I opened the door to be asked if I would like my room cleaned. I pointed to the do not disturb sign and was asked if I would like them to come back tomorrow. I told them I would be going out shortly so an hour would be fine. Surely, the one rule a housekeeper needs to follow is the do not disturb sign. That being said, our cleaner Hayat did a fantastic job of cleaning the room and it was spotless! Had it not been for my awful experience with Jacqueline on the first night, I would have raised these further issues. However, after seeing the way she treats guests and her extreme lack in basic customer service skills, she made herself very unapproachable. The hotel is in a very quiet location, which is nice. The walk to the beach is approx 20 mins. It's a really nice walk. The walk to PortAdventura/Ferrari Land is approx 25-30 mins. If you wanted to pop out for dinner, there is a fantastic restaurant which is about 10 mins walk away called "The Roadhouse" (see my other review for this!) I'd like to add that the Golden Port Salou send you a survey on the first night to your email address asking if there were any issues. We filled this in advising of the issue with the ants. The night before we were leaving, we received a response from Jacqueline with an apology, which I'm grateful for, however I felt this was far too late and seeing as that the survey was submitted at the beginning of my holiday, I would have expected a response much sooner. Whilst I wouldn't personally return, I actually would recommend the hotel, as it was good value for money, BUT a word of warning that if things do go wrong, they do not have the right people in place to make things right and restore faith and you may end up leaving with a sour taste. My overall ratings: Food 3/5 Service 3/5 Room 3/5 Cleanliness 3/5 Atmosphere 3/5 Maintenance 2/5More
Value for money
We have just returned from a 4 night stay at the Golden Port Salou and Spa. We had room on the 4th floor overlooking the pool. I emailed the hotel prior to our visit to request a walk in shower for my Nan, which although they could not promise my request was granted. The food choice at the hotel is very good and drinks are excellent value for money at the bar. Made even better by happy hour, 8pm to 9pm. Our room was clean, but the walls are very thin, I would rate it more of a 3 star than 4 star. The bedrooms are getting a little tired and would benefit from a refurb. The hotel is in a lovely quiet area of Salou, but still within easy walking distance to the main strip of shops and bars. I would recommend a walk along the promenade. The staff at the hotel are lovely and always friendly and happy to help.More
