About Dominican Republic
If you’re looking for a Caribbean island getaway, start thinking about flights to the Dominican Republic. Jungle-like greenery flows down hillsides until it reaches sugar-white sands. You’ll find palm-thatched huts barbecuing the catch of the day and serving potent rum punches. And it’s all set to the soundtrack of sultry merengue. The two big names on the island are Punta Cana and Puerto Plata. Holidays to the former are beach-centric. Resort-wise, you’ve got Bavaro, Uvero Alto and Cap Cana, where upmarket hotels have dropped their pins along the eggshell sands. The Puerto Plata region, meanwhile, boasts a city of the same name – allegedly the oldest on the island. Tourists travel here to wander the remains of the 16th-century fort, and for cable car rides up misty Isabel de Torres. That’s not to say the beaches in these parts are missable. Children will love Playa Dorada’s super-long stretch, and you can snorkel in a reef just off the shore in Bahia Maimon. Our direct flights to the Dominican Republic take off from London Gatwick, Manchester and Birmingham, touching down at Puerto Plata Airport and Punta Cana International Airport.
