Renowned for its rugged coastline, holidays to West Cyprus aren't just about sunbathing. Leave your sun lounger and soak up the real rural Cyprus, from ancient religious sites to old-fashioned villages and traditional winemakers.
Most people have heard of Cyprus’ famous religious architecture, but far fewer will have visited the isolated Chrysoroyiatissa Monastery in Panayia. Located in the Paphos Forest, Chrysoroyiatissa has been making its own wine for around 40 years. While you’re there, be sure to see the raised terrace. You’ll have unrivalled views of the forest and the Asprogia-Kannaviou dam, where glittering waters are flanked by pine trees.
The west coast of Cyprus isn’t short of bars with views of the sunset. In such a beautiful country, take some time to relax and enjoy uninterrupted views over the Mediterranean. Local restaurants, like those found in the village of Gialia, are great places to do just that. Here you'll find homegrown organic produce, served up with Cypriot charm and hospitality.
West Cyprus is a wonderful place for nature lovers. Hire a 4x4 or book an excursion to Lara Bay in the Akamas Peninsula. To get there, you’ll venture through the spectacular Akamas Nature Reserve, which is made up of valleys and gorges, and opens out onto a rugged coastline littered with sandy bays and coves. If you get your timing right, you may see loggerhead turtles and green turtles – Lara Bay is a nesting spot for both in the summer.
