View All DealsHolidays to Veneto aren't just about Venice, though it definitely shouldn't be missed. In the surrounding region of Italy, you can also go skiing in Cortina or visit the medieval city of Verona, where Romeo and Juliet met their fate. Veneto is also famous for bordering on Lake Garda, and for its production of wines such as Valpolicella and Bardolino.
The Veneto region's capital is Venice, a city full of art museums, canals and bridges. Wandering on foot you'll find galleries, mask shops for the annual carnival, and St Mark’s Square. Here you can savour some traditional 'gelato' ice cream, before making a visit to the Basilica and the Doge's Palace. The best way to travel is by water, either on the plentiful water buses and taxis, or on a romantic gondola.
Venice is the jewel in the Veneto region's crown, but you'll also love the shores of Lake Garda or skiing in the Dolomite mountains. There are still many medieval walled cities like Verona, where you can find the echoes of Shakespeare's star-crossed lovers. Or you might visit the Veneto vineyards, and sample signature wines like Bardolino and Soave.
The Veneto boasts more than 100 kilometres of coastline on its Venetian Riviera, stretching from northern Bibione to Barracata in the south. You'll find the best-known beaches in Lido di Jesolo and Caorle, with all the facilities such as bars, cafés and watersports. Caorle also features a historical town centre with an 11th-century cathedral, and at Jesolo you'll also be able to visit the aquarium and water park.
