Holidays to Andalucia will plunge you into a world of traditional Spanish culture, from fiery flamenco dancers to ancient Moorish palaces – while still serving up a hefty slice of coastline.
Think of Spain, and you're probably thinking of sunlit plazas, medieval laneways and Gothic cathedrals. There's a reason for that, and that reason is Seville. Quintessentially Andalucian, this city is the home of flamenco, and iconic attractions like the Seville Cathedral and the Royal Alcazar. Throw in a trendy dining scene and a bustling nightlife, and you'll have some idea of Seville's local charms.
If you're looking for beaches, southern Spain is just the ticket. Boasting 1000km of sand-fringed shoreline, with wide-open stretches and hidden coves, you'll be spoiled for choice when it comes to placing that parasol. Make time for Los Genoveses in Costa de Almeria, or Bolonia, on the Costa de la Luz. The first offers pristine coast and marvellous views of the surrounding cliffs. The second has gold sand, cool juice bars, and the chance to explore the nearby Roman ruins.
From the Sierra Nevada to the Sierra de las Nieves, you can stretch your legs on spectacular hikes in southern Spain, or explore the hilltop towns for a more leisurely approach. Light up your Instagram with pictures of Ronda, dramatically cut in half by the El Tajo Gorge, or take in the cobbled streets and whitewashed houses of El Gastor.
