Best time to go to Lecce

Summers in Italy are typically Mediterranean – think sunny skies and temperatures in the late twenties and early thirties. If you’re set on doing lots of exploring, you might opt to visit in spring or autumn, when temperatures fall to the more comfortable low twenties. Winter sees a fair bit of rain, but it’s not unusual to experience the odd downpour in summer, either. Things usually dry up quickly, though.

Passports & Visas

Citizens of Ireland don’t need a visa to enter Italy but must have a valid passport. For the most up-to-date passport and visa info, visit the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade website.

Health & Safety

You should take out comprehensive travel and medical insurance to cover you while you’re away. It’s also a good idea to get a European Health Insurance Card – or EHIC – before leaving Ireland. Though it’s not a substitute for travel insurance, it entitles you to emergency medical treatment on the same terms as Italian nationals. It won't, however, cover you for medical repatriation, ongoing medical treatment or non-urgent treatment. For the latest health and safety info, visit the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade website.
