Holidays to Hastings are a mix of white sand beaches, laidback boardwalks, and gleaming malls. Plus, historic Bridgetown is just next door, offering a lot in the way of dining, nightlife and historical attractions.

Old and new

Hastings has its feet firmly planted in old Barbados. Once a small fishing village, the town cosies up to a white sand shore, shaded here and there by palm trees. However, thanks to being set between the capital of Bridgetown and the buzzing resort of St Lawrence Gap, contemporary dining, shopping and nightlife venues are all within easy reach.

Beaches, beaches, beaches

It’s hard to imagine better beaches than those found in Barbados, and Hastings Beach doesn’t let the side down. Soft, fine sand gives way to translucent waters. Then there’s Rockley Beach, only a 5-minute walk away. This has a long sea shelf and shallow water – perfect for kids. Pop your snorkels on and explore the water, though you may not need them to spot the turtles and brightly coloured fish that dart across the seafloor.

Explore Hastings Town

Hastings has your typical laidback beach town vibes, but that doesn’t mean it’s sleepy. Head to the main thoroughfare, running parallel from the beach. Here, you’ll find shops, restaurants and bars to relax in for a lunchtime break or for dinner and drinks. The five-minute walk to Rockley will place you at the Quayside Centre, known for its unique handicrafts.

Branch out to Bridgetown and St Lawrence Gap

Bridgetown is a five-minute drive away. Whether you want to spend your time shopping or sightseeing, you’ll find plenty to like in this colourful capital. Make time for the old garrison, or George Washington’s home, for an insight into the history of this city. Meanwhile, if you're looking for a party, head five minutes in the other direction to St Lawrence Gap – you'll find beach bars, clubs, and rum shacks here.
