Holidays to Maxwell offer the best of both worlds. This idyllic resort rests between the peaceful fishing village of Oistins and the party spots along St Lawrence Gap. Decide which way to go as you relax on the white sand beaches right outside your hotel.
The Oistins fish festival is a yearly event that takes place during Easter week. It's held in the small fishing village of Oistins, a six-minute drive from Maxwell Beach. It's perfect for seafood lovers and for anyone who wants to soak up some real Caribbean vibes. Expect bright colours, steel bands, reggae sound systems, and a friendly atmosphere. And obviously, there's plenty of fish frying on the grills. Festival highlights include the fish-boning contest and a greasy pole competition.
The locals know how to throw a good party, and you're always invited. Make a beeline for St Lawrence Gap. It's just a 10-minute walk from Maxwell Beach, and it's the number one late night spot. This one-kilometre stretch is home to dozens of bars and live-music venues. Experience a whole range of Caribbean sounds, including reggae, calypso beats, and 12-piece steel drum bands. You can dance to the more contemporary reggaeton and dubstep beats in the late-night clubs.
Bridgetown is just a 10-minute drive from Maxwell. It's the capital city of Barbados and home to one of the island's most interesting tourist attractions. A UNESCO-approved site, the Garrison is a former military prison that now houses the Barbados Museum. Learn all about the island's rich history as you explore the exhibitions. You'll see artefacts from the early inhabitants, natural history displays, and a collection of rare historical maps. The museum is open from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday.
