Holidays to Oistins show off all the different sides of the Caribbean. There's a healthy mix of sightseeing, beaches to relax on, and family-friendly nightlife. It delivers the best of Barbados, all in one little coastal town.
The nearby city of St Lawrence Gap, just a 20-minute drive away, is known for its bar-lined streets. But Oistins offers a different kind of nightlife. Friday and Saturday nights are all about the Fish Fry. A family-friendly alternative to pubs and clubs, the Fish Fry is a chance to sample fresh Barbadian seafood like tuna, swordfish, marlin, and mahi-mahi. You can also listen to traditional Barbadian spouge music, and mingle with the locals. It’s a must-do activity that's not to be missed.
Miami Beach is a great place to relax after a late night at the Fish Fry. The waters here are mostly calm, with only the occasional swell, so it’s popular with local families. You may notice that more people begin to turn up at low tide. That’s because you can walk over the sands to Welches Beach when the waters are shallow. For a more secluded beachfront experience, try Maxwell Beach, a 25-minute walk along the coast.
Oistins is small and peaceful, but it’s only a 20-minute drive from the biggest city in Barbados. Bridgetown is the capital of the island nation, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This colonial city boasts a number of interesting historic buildings, like the 17th-century Jewish synagogue, brightly coloured houses, and a boardwalk along the edge of the canal. Distillery tours, showcasing the island’s rum history, are popular here.
