Holidays to Rockley are a chance to escape to a tropical world of white sands and shady trees. Laidback beach bars and fish restaurants are complemented by varied sporting activities, and nearby historic Bridgetown.
Rockley occupies a little niche between St Lawrence and Hastings, on the south-west coast of Barbados. It's a quiet residential neighbourhood and one of the island’s most tranquil retreats. Rockley is justly proud of its immaculate beach, also known as Accra Beach. Here the clustered sea grape and casuarina trees offer shade and screen you from the various bars and eateries.
Rockley is a miniature hub of sporting activities. There's tennis at the country club and a fun nine-hole golf course, where you'll find some of the island’s best fairways. Just outside the town is the Garrison Savannah racecourse, where you might fancy a flutter on the horses. The beach is naturally the big draw at Rockley, and the northern end will provide you with a good choice of watersports.
Rockley is ideally positioned between the Bajan capital of Bridgetown and the party centre of St Lawrence. Bridgetown is only a 15-minute drive north from Rockley. Here, you can admire the boats in the scenic harbour and maybe book a cruise. The historic area containing the Old Parliament and St Ann's Garrison buildings are listed by UNESCO. There's a large synagogue here, and a museum where you can learn about the island's history. Heading southwards for six minutes by road will bring you to St Lawrence Gap, where vibrant nightlife is the big attraction.
