View All DealsTsarevo offers a blend of old architecture and natural scenery, set on the coast of the Black Sea. Holidays to Tsarevo allow you to learn more about Bulgaria's culture, which is filled with traditional folklore, Balkan music, and lively dance.
Black Sea resorts have a reputation for being quite modern, but Tsarevo is one that maintains its old-world charm. You’ll notice many of the old houses are wooden, made from locally sourced wood from the Strandzha mountain. The Assumption of St. Mary church is also worth a look. It’s one of the last remaining buildings from the 1800s. It’s no wonder Tsarevo is a Bulgarian royal family favourite.
The nearest large town to Tsarevo is Sozopol. The 35-minute drive is popular with travellers wanting to discover more of the Black Sea coast. Sozopol’s old town features quiet cobbled streets lined with traditional wooden houses, with a few Medieval churches scattered here and there, such as the church at the St. Apostles monastery. There’s also a small pathway that leads right down to the sea, where young locals can often be seen jumping and diving into the water.
There are lots of options for hikers in and around Tsarevo, but some of the most popular routes can be found on Strandzha. There are even a few eco trails that are suitable for children. A top choice is the Marina River eco-trail. You can walk it in around one hour, and it takes you through areas growing the Pontic Rhododendron, or 'Strandzha Flower'. Another great option is the nearby Ropotamo Nature Reserve, 30 minutes away by car. Even if you’re not a hiker, you can still take in the beauty of the reserve by taking a riverboat cruise. You may even spot a kingfisher or two.
