View All DealsHolidays to Igrane are your gateway to one of the prettiest villages on the Dalmatian Coast. Plus, you've got easy access to some of the region's famous cities.
Igrane is a tiny, one-time fishing village on the Makarska Riviera, a span of Croatia’s picture-perfect Dalmatian Coast. 360-degree views are par for the course in these parts, with the Biokovo Mountains in one direction, and the turquoise Adriatic Sea in the other. You’ll find the village around the half-way checkpoint between the historical cities of Split and Dubrovnik.
Thick and fragrant pine forests roll down from the mountains to Igrane’s beaches. A one-and-a-half-kilometre sweep of sand and pebbles unfolds along the coastline. The main stretch has something for everyone – flat areas to roll out a towel on, shallow waters for paddling, and watersports huts touting peddle-boats and jet-skis.
Igrane is across the water from Hvar, which has earned its spot on roll calls of the world’s best islands. Take the 40-minute ferry over, and you’ve got world-famous lavender fields, Venetian throwback buildings, and the setting of one of the edgiest summer festivals in Europe. Back on the mainland, Makarska is a half-hour drive away, where you’ll find some of the Dalmatian Coast’s premier clubs and bars.
Historians have recently claimed the legendary King Arthur was actually a Roman soldier whose mother was born in Igrane. And the village isn’t sleeping on their new claim to fame. In fact, you’ll often see folklore performances held in honour of the hero, with actors recreating his epic battles.
