View All DealsHolidays to Podgora are bursting with flavour, from the net-fresh catches of the day brought in by the local fishermen to the Italian-influenced eateries that line the quaint harbour front.
Much of Podgora’s history revolves around its harbour, which sits at the heart of the village. Wander along the seafront, and you’ll spot flocks of fishing boats lined up in the dainty marina, ready to head out to the ocean. It’s easy to see why the area’s known for its melt-in-the-mouth seafood specialities, like grilled sea bass, fish stew and crni rizot – AKA seafood risotto.
Podgora sits at the foothills of some of Croatia’s loftiest mountains – the second-highest range to be precise. It’s home to pine forests, olive groves and rugged limestone cliffs, as well as some flowers you won’t find anywhere else in the world. One’s called the Biokovo bellflower, which looks a little like a bluebell from a distance.
Head north along the coast, and one of the country’s most vibrant port towns is waiting for you. Along with chilled-out nightlife and a thriving wine-making scene, you’ll come across Makarska’s charming main square, overlooked by the proud figure of St Mark’s Church. To top things off, a position in a sheltered bay means the town’s bevy of family-friendly beaches tend to come with calm waters, and plenty of opportunity for watersports like kayaking and snorkelling.
