Holidays to Tucepi let you be as relaxed or active as you like. Laze on postcard-worthy beaches, windsurf around nearby islands, or hike Mount Biokovo.
A one-hour drive south of Split is where you’ll find the teeny town of Tucepi. Nuzzled into the Croatian coastline, it’s a place that has good looks on its side – expect a highly-polished pebble beach, backed by pine trees, traditional restaurants and cosy cafés. Inland, meanwhile, hiking trails weave through hillside villages, historic settlements, and untouched countryside.
The town of Makarska – 10 minutes down the road – is the launching point for ferry rides out to Brac, Croatia’s third-largest island. It’s not only a windsurfer’s paradise, thanks to the constant, balmy breeze, but is also home to Zlatni Rat Beach. Long, narrow and shaped like a shark’s fin, this sandy strip features in almost every travel brochure about Croatia.
The Cetina River draws in just as many crowds as the local beaches. It’s easy to see why – the rushing turquoise waters are hemmed by dramatic limestone cliffs. It’s a popular spot for river rafting, and several companies organise rides through the rapids, many of which depart from nearby Makarska.
