Holidays to Umag take you to Croatia's westernmost town, with views across the Adriatic Sea. The coastline is dotted with old Roman villas. This historic Istrian town combines relaxing sandy shores with impressive 17th-century Baroque architecture. It's a great blend of sightseeing and sunbathing.
Located on the scenic Istrian Riviera, Umag offers plenty of picturesque waterfront spots where you can gaze out over the Adriatic Sea. The town itself is centred around Luka Umag. And just north of the town centre are a number of sandy beaches where you can swim, sunbathe, and relax.
Umag’s 17th-century Old Town is best explored on foot. Strolling around the old cobbled streets, there are a number of attractions that are well worth visiting. The Museum of Umag is a great place to learn more about the town’s Italian history and cultural influence. Also be sure to check out the old clock tower in the town square, and the parish church with its intricately painted interior.
As Umag is located right near Croatia’s northern border, it’s easy to drive to a couple of other European countries as day-trips. Located just 50 minutes away by car is Koper, which is Slovenia’s largest coastal city. It’s a great place to visit if you like old towns, with some ornate Venetian architecture. And in just over an hour from Umag, you could be in Trieste, Italy, with its huge piazzas and old Roman ruins.
