Vrsar is nestled on Croatia’s western coast. This ancient fishing village runs at a gentle pace, and manages to combine Croatia’s cosmopolitan history with its often overlooked coastline. The narrow streets of Vrsar are rich in historical relics, and are backed by rolling green hills to the east. And down by the beach, you can look out over the 18 miniature and uninhabited islands dotted around the clear, blue waters of the bay.
This ancient town has lived through some of history’s most important periods, and carries all the reminders of its past with it today. The waterfront, for example, is packed with remnants of the old town wall dating back to the 13th century. You'll also see Roman gates and ancient courtyards, and there's a great selection of churches built in a host of traditional styles. You’ll find everything from Renaissance to Baroque architecture scattered through the narrow streets. The ruins of an ancient castle are nestled on a hill above the town.
Looking out over the bay to the west of town, you’ll see a host of tiny islands dotted about. There are, in fact, 18 tiny and uninhabited islands spread out around the bay. If you fancy an adventure, you can always head out to explore one of these mysterious islets. You can claim your own private beach for a day of relaxed, quiet sunbathing.
